James is joined by Patreon Paul Meahan to discuss why Canada has only previously qualified for one World Cup in 1986 despite being North America's third largest country.

Canadians have seen the likes of Costa Rica, Jamaica, Honduras and Trinidad & Tobago qualify for football's biggest show since their last qualification, but do Canadians even care? And for those that don't will qualifying now and joint hosting in 2026 change how the nation feels about 'Soccer'?

Plus, strengths and weaknesses of the current team, expectations within a challenging Group F with Belgium, Croatia and Morocco and we learn Canada's upcoming games could be quite fun to watch...

Real Debacle FC

Great recap by Paul. Paul's voice is built for radio by the way. At times I thought I was listening to Stephen Brunt. Good history recap Paul. Good job.

2023-04-05 07:31:06 One item that we miss here in Canada when we review our journey from Mexico to Qatar ... credit should be given to private academies in the 90s and 2000's ... a lot of kids (parents) wanted more in the winter and wanted to get away from the hockey kids who played part-time summer soccer ... these private academies provided kids full time soccer year round ... and if a gem was found ... they were sent overseas. Canada Soccer's development system of district & provincial teams to feed our national team never worked (Ontario vs Yukon meet ups were always a joke & they still are). Current squad - a big thank you to parents (newly arrived Canadians) and searching for a path for their kids to keep playing the game full time. Private academies provided this in the 90s and here we are now with these academies - now MLS academies have taken over this responsibility - and the newly formed Canadian League provides a path to keep active for late possible bloomers locally.
