QUICK TIPS #10

I promised this awhile ago, but it's taken quite a bit of time to get it together.

I buy brushes for both my day job and for my freelancing, so I'll be provided links to the brushes I use and where you can get them! These brushes are not necessary, but if you're anything like me and either

a) don't have time to make your own brush settings

b) too lazy

this might be the perfect guide for you! Usually I'll take these brushes and make very minor edits to them to get it just right. Certain brushes work better for certain things, but these are totally optional and I'm putting it out there so maybe it will help you! These brush packs are less than $10 so it's not breaking the bank.

So let's go through this lining/ink pack.

DEFAULT BRUSHES (these are free and come with downloading the program Procreate)

-Dry Ink .. perfect brush for slightly textured linework

-Technical Pen.. may take tweaking but great for smooth and clean lines

ERIC'S PENCILS (this pack has some great brushes, but my personal favorites are below)  https://gumroad.com/l/XGOfJ

-Digital Pencil .. Works as an efficient sketch and dual lining brush

-Scribbler.. Broad stroke for a very cartoon-monoline lineart

Perfect Inking X Pack (This pack has a couple of nice beginner brushes—this company makes a lot of brush packs so if you like this one, there's plenty more where that came from.)  https://creativemarket.com/extremebrushes/3304182-Procreate-Perfect-Inking%21

-X Pure Ink ..A sharp lineart brush with tapered ends allowing for max detail

PROINKERS (this brush pack is a mega-one with lots of sketching, lining, and textured brushes. If you're unsure of what brush to use or just want lots to experiment with, this is a great brush pack that casts a broad net to see what kinds of brushes you like) https://gumroad.com/eric_merced#ieGc

-Rough Brush Pen .. Broad strokes with thin ends, great for outlining and depth

-Inker.. a personal favorite textured lineart brush, this is just a bit less abrasive than the rough brush pen and allows for details

Honorable mentions for packs that aren't in this guide:

With all of that being said, please remember that these brushes are not necessary for you to draw well. Yes, I did buy these with my own money. Yes, I use them fairly often so I would say they're a good investment if you have a little extra cash to spare and want to splurge but by no means would they make or break you. I've found that finding a good inking and textured brush is hard to make myself, so use these resources and see what works best for you!
