What a match...

Wow. Just... Wow. This is why we love the game.

I completely agree with the first part of the decision based on the decided rules. Dan didnt write in time= he doesnt receive a point. But when it comes to Chance's answer, I'm a bit confused on the ruling. O'Russell is a completely different last name than Russell despite the fact that they both phonetically sound almost identical. Additionally, Imagine that the situation were reversed and the correct answer was O'Russell instead of O. Russell. In that instance, I believe that it would be a much more cut and dry ruling that a person answering O. Russell would not be awarded the point. Granted, the argument could be made that a person may definitively know the correct answer but has merely never seen the person's name in writing. But even then, wouldn't this only further prove that the individual absolutely did not know the directors correct name. That being said would it be possible to tape a short redo to the end of the match similar to what was done with team ETC (it may have been another team I cant remember fir sure haha) a while back due to a controversial ending. I dont mean to be disrespectful in any way as I am only trying to voice my opinion on a ruling that I believe may not have been completely fair to both sides of competition. There have been several instances since the ETC match that I believe have warranted a partial redo and none have received one. This has sometimes frustrated me because I believe it to be a disservice to the players who work so hard and lose with controversy. I understand that scheduling can be an issue as well as production and I'm not demanding anything as I know it may not be possible or that you simply may not agree with me which is also perfectly fine. But if it were possible, would it be considered given the large amount of controversy surrounding this? Thank you for your time and sorry for droning on haha. Love all you guys and and the amazing show you produce.

Gosh darn it!

I’m so upset about this, didn’t know it would affect me this much, but it really did...

Jay

Agreed. Ok with Dan not getting the point (basically a jane fonda situation) but Chance shouldn't have gotten the point either. It's clear that Chance thought the guy's surname was "O'Russell" which is completely different than middle name: Owen surname: Russell. As someone pointed out in the youtube comments Samuel L Jackson is not Samuel L'Jackson.

This was out of this world.... Maybe best game ever but that ending was not cool...

Damn how was that O spelling missed on the review ugh oh well great game

I do think in a team match that sudden death should be a collaborative effort between team members to give one answer. That way the first TEAM that gives an incorrect answer would lose the game. But maybe I'm missing the reasoning behind it being done the way it is...

I have been following the league since the OG team tournament that schmoes won, so I love the league ❤️ And not gonna lie I got emotional with the post game interview, I've been a huge huge fan of dan''s for a very long time! I've been a of Rocha as well love them both and seeing the emotions hit me because this game is powerful and they do give everything they have 👏 this match was intense and both teams played incredible! and I cannot wait for what comes from all competitors in the match. I may not agree with the ruling but as a sports lover sometimes it just happens like that. Great work baby everyone! cannot wait for what comes next 👍

This was disappointing as Russell ≠ O’Russell. Whoever thought that was a correct answer needs to apologize to those of us that wear our O’s and apostrophes like a badge of honor.

Anonymous

I wonder if the schmoes would do a explanation video to explain how they came to this decision for us patrons.

Great match regardless. Both teams were giving their all but the ending was like a kick in the nuts.

Holy rusty cage Batman, what a match. Shit just got real.

This was an epic match but O'Russel.

Oliver Gehrmann

Unpopular opinion: I can live with the ruling. I understand the argument that "Russel does not equal O'Russell", but they have said repeatedly that it's all about phonetics for them. If he had only said his answer, it would have been fine... yes, he did spell it wrong, but you have to draw the line somewhere. Their "phonetics matter, spelling doesn't" is a pretty clear line and as long as they keep enforcing it and not change the rules again, I'm OK with it. Also, the match was amazing and probably the best I've seen this year. I really can't remember right now whether there was another match that made me feel like I was on such a rollercoaster ride...

That ruling was terrible. O'Russell and O. Russell are not the same. Correct call on Dan but that Chance ruling was flat out wrong.

Anonymous

Also O'Russell and O. Russell are not phonetically the same either so if we are going strictly with the rules then Chance's submitted answer is wrong and also probably everyones if they did not write it out properly due to this special case

Anonymous

So what you all are saying is... if they called Chance first, and he didn't write anything but answers with the *exact same pronuntiation* he should get the point because que obviously knew the answer. But since he put an ' instead of a . he should lose the point. I see...

This one was...I mean...wow!

Great match and I loved seeing the emotion in the end. About the decision: if I was the one making the rules, I would not accept O'Russell as an answer when correct surname is Russell. Dan obviously should not have got a point. But luckily I'm not and clearly Ellis didn't make it lightly so I will simply have to accept it. And add Founding Fathers among the teams from Anarchy who I would like to see also in the future.

Anonymous

if its gonna get called to rules then yes those 2 completely different names

Jay

After rewatching the match I understand the phonetic argument but feel it's actually misplaced in this very unique situation with this specific name. To me this isn't for example a JTE Geppetto/Japeto case where he knew BOTH the character and its name but is just a horrible speller therefore the phonetic rule applies. To me this is actually more of a Lena Headey/Headley situation and here's why. Rocha only knew the actress but didn't know her surname was Headey and unfortunately the two names don't sound alike. Chance only knew the director but didn't know his middle name begins with an O and surname is Russell. Luckily in this unique scenario, the two names O. Russell and O'Russell sound exactly alike. If it was any other letter i.e. Samuel L'Jackson it would sound different and be wrong. Therefore it's pure luck that the phonetic rule SEEMS to apply here but really imo doesn't. Just like Rocha, Chance knew the person but didn't know their correct name. Just my two cents. However tough decision to make nonetheless. Match of the year for me so far.

Loved Rocha's authenticity.

When I started watching this match is was hard for me because I'm a fan of both teams but when it got closer to the end I realized who I really wanted to win because I yelled my ass off when the team that team won. Amazing match keep up the great work.
