Official statement from Collider about the passing of our dear friend and co-worker Jon Schnepp:

It is with immense sadness that we confirm that Jon Schnepp passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 19, 2018. As the host of Collider Heroes and frequent panelist on Collider Movie Talk and other Collider shows, videos, and panels, Jon was a vital and irreplaceable part of the Collider family, and we are all deeply upset by this tragic news.

He was a key creative force in the animated series Metalocalypse, worked on the animated series The Venture Bros. and the Black Panther animated series. And recently, Jon made his feature debut by directing the terrific 2015 documentary The Death of “Superman Lives”: What Happened? with his partner Holly Payne producing it. Schnepp’s passion for art was infectious, and his knowledge—especially when it came to comic books—was legendary. He was a fan first and foremost, and the excitement with which he discussed film, comics, stories, and storytellers was palpable.

On this video, Mark Ellis reads the statement from Holly and Jon’s family and our statement from Collider on the passing of our beloved Jon Schnepp. We ask that you respect the privacy of Jon’s family, friends, and co-workers during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with all those who knew him, or were fans of Jon, as he leaves behind a legacy of love and passion that will never be forgotten. We also ask that you please consider donating to the immense medical costs on Holly’s official GoFundMe page. One more time… Sweaties, unite.

My heart is breaking for all of you, @hollykpayne & Jon's families, everyone @ColliderVideo @johncampea who first brought Jon in, via a recommendation to share his knowledge on who the Guardians of the Galaxy were, after Marvel Studios announced the movie, and too all all those who know & have met Jon. He helped change many people's lives on a daily basis. Be it his knowledge, ideas, and laughter. I've been watching Collider, well AMC MT, daily since early 11, when I was in a very dark place after my Mom passed away late December. I quit playing video games & beta testing, and nothing was right as I had no joy or the like for really anything. Then one day I put on You Tube, and saw a AMC Movie Talk in the Recommended section, and the image shown, was of @johncampea with a huge smile, hands up in their air...his reaction to "something"? I clicked on it, and watched. I continued too, and slowly I started getting out of the depression I was in. I remember when I saw his debut appearance & from day 1, he had "the it factor". He was knowledgeable, yes, but more importantly, it was passion! There is NO faking a @JonShnepp passion display! lol From the light in his eyes, that smile, and occasional goofy grin, to raising his arms "raging" in one of his many voices, his head-bobbing when he goes into "scrimpledorf" or some version thereof. It IS all real! I had the honor of meeting Jon last year at #NYCC17 for his panel, then it was a canceled panel, to then, his "Oh Shit people are waiting for me?", mini panel. As he RUSHED over hearing that about 50 of us weren't told it was canceled! Now talk about sweaty! LOL. But he was so cool. After it was over, we talked for about 10 mins, I thanked him for what he brought to the shows, and getting me back into comics, different artists & shows I never read or saw prior. Since we are both metal heads & loved @Slayer, @Metallica etc., I gave him my 4 DVD Bootleg set of Metallica's 30th anniversary shows from '11 SF, CA that was for us Fan Club members only. He was floored. But then he gave my issue #1 of his signed @Slayer comic, which blew me away! I told him I was going to the Collider M & G, and he said he was going also. I arrived at the bar before him, but when he arrived, he saw me in the back as I waved him over. I bought him a drink, and we played a couple of games of pool at the bar before the bar got busy & the rest of the @ColliderVideo crew showed up! After the M & G, we walked over to the NY Comedy Club for a kick ass @markellislive stand up set, where after Mark was done, @TheRochaSays & & Jon were going to have a few mins to themselves on stage to crack jokes, and then a Q & A session after.. They were all great! I gave Mark a few of my rare Van Halen CD's & DVD's since I'm a die hard VH fan also. And told Mark I gave Schnepp the 4 Metallica DVD's, which Jon said he would give to Ellis to enjoy, as Jon was more a Slayer die hard, than a Metallica die hard...which was cool! Being a fan can be hard at times, especially when you see certain people you really connect too on different levels pretty much 3-5 days a week,. Us fans can "feel" like we are friends w/ all of you, even though you guys & gals on the other side of the camera aren't for the most part, or at all. We hear about their lives, know some of the things they like & love outside of the studio, and of course their passions. And when a subject comes up, and it hits your passion, you shine. And that is what makes Jon, and, everyone at @ColliderVideo INCREDIBLY LOVED & respected by all!! And that's what makes this incredibility hard and difficult for myself, which means those closest too Jon, need all of our love, support, thoughts and prayer,, as that will hopefully aid each of them in giving them strength in such a difficult time.. And I'm just a fan. RIP Jon, you're the best there is, the best there was, and the best Sweatie there ever will be! Sincerely, Edward Herrel aka, Haskell
