Hi, Everyone.

So, if you recall, a few weeks ago I reported to you that Patreon did the equivalent of slipping on a banana peel and falling into a pit of flaming snakes when they moved their billing services to Ireland. Subscribers were suddenly getting kicked from their subscriptions when their payments were declined and to get back in they sometimes had to use a different credit card if they had one. It was a mess.

The mess was not an apocalyptic one for us, luckily. But there are some former members of this Patreon out there who have been kicked and are having a very hard time getting back in because of Patreon's new billing system. I am very mad about it.

In the midst of all this, Finlay and myself began to feel that having so many of our eggs in the Patreon basket might be poor business sense, and in the event of something stupid happening again (which, let's be real, it probably will) we wanted to have options available to all of you, should you want to take your business elsewhere.

Enter Supporting Cast:

Finlay and I met with the team at Supporting Cast, who handle podcast subscriptions for NPR, Slate, Wondery, and more and they're great, and after jumping through a lot of technological hoops we are now set up to offer subscriptions through their system.

We won't be leaving Patreon, as I said this is just about y'all having options, should you need them. The process is much simpler than Patreon and seems to work great. The only hiccup I've noticed is that, if you're using Pocketcasts, it may take 24 hours for show notes to start appearing on episodes.

If you'd like to check it out, you can go here.

And if you're worried about being disconnected from the Midnight Burger community, we can very easily keep you connected to us through our Discord server, The Midnight Server (link here to join. It will be good for seven days, if it's expired send me a message and I'll send you a new link). It's the nicest place on the internet.

If you have any questions, please ask them in the comments or send me a DM.

Okay! Onward unto the Season 3 finale!

I’m cool with whatever you want to do. Love Midnight Burger! Mark

I hate that Patreon is making us "opt in" on privacy. Privacy should be the default setting.

Midnight Burger

We agree. They seem to be taking steps toward becoming a social network, but the key component of joining a social network is that you are actively opting in to the network. It's not okay to do it in reverse. This is why we're creating options for subscribers.
