One last time about Season 2: Thank you all so much. We couldn't do this without you and it's been a total joy to tell this story to all of you.

Shift Notes

For those of you on the Midnight Burger tier and above, another season of Shift Notes is heading your way in September. Once again you will get to hear Finlay and myself and the occasional special guest do a deep dive into what did and didn't go into each episode while we simultaneously prepare for the next one. If you've never listened, it's fun! If you'd like to see my life long goal of "trying to find ways to make Finlay laugh" on full display, now's your chance.

If you're on the Coffee and a Donut tier and are feeling left out. Worry not! With each new episode of shift notes, we will be releasing an episode of Shift Notes Season 1 to all tiers so you'll have something to enjoy while you wait for Season 3.

Something we'd like to add to Shift Notes this time around are listener questions. If you have a burning question that you're dying for us to answer in Shift Notes, send us a message via the Patreon app and we'll do our best to answer all of your currently-on-fire questions.

Leif, Old Leif, Even Older Leif, and Now...

We loved doing the Interludes for you all this season, it gave us an opportunity to do a tiny deep dive into other aspects of the show that wouldn't normally fit inside an episode. This next season we wanted to do a bigger deep dive into the world that surrounds the diner. So, coming this fall, instead of the tiny interludes, we will be producing a 9 episode mini-series alongside the main show. It's called "Young Leif" and it will be the story of Leif as a young man, when he first left Earth and began a life among the stars.

Of all the characters in the show, Leif is the only one who had a strange and storied life before he came to the diner. We spent a long time this past season in Leif's old stomping ground "The Triad" and we met a lot of his old friends and enemies. We wanted to take some time next season to go back and explore the beginning of those relationships and get to know our favorite weird dude a little bit better.

We're very excited to bring Young Leif to you this Fall. It's a great opportunity for us to get to know people we've met in Season 2 and meet new characters in Leif's backstory. The stars were meant to be wandered around in, and I'm very excited to wander them with Leif and with all of you.

Here's the Thing

In order for Young Leif to work, it does need to play along side the main episodes for everyone, if it doesn't then the story doesn't play out the way we want it to. This means that Young Leif can only stay exclusive to the Patreon feed for a shorter amount of time. Going forward in Season 3 it needs to work like this: For the main Chapters of Midnight Burger the early access period will be increased, Patreon subscribers will now get the new episodes a full month before the public feed rather than two weeks as we did in Season 2. Episodes of Young Leif will be available exclusively on Patreon for a full two months before being released on the public feed.

We loved creating the exclusive content for you all last season, but exclusive content limits itself by design, because in exclusive content you can't do anything major that moves the story forward. If you do then the story becomes incomplete to anyone who doesn't have access to the exclusive content and the story as a whole suffers. So, in making the exclusive content I was constantly writing with one arm tied behind my back, and I like my arms and would like to use both of them to make the show for you all. With this slightly altered format, the main Chapters and Young Leif will be more complimentary to each other and allow us more creative freedom in Season 3. That's very exciting for us and I hope it's exciting for you too.

The Midnight Server Awaits

If there's any of our perks that are under utilized by our patrons it's our Midnight Server Discord. If you're unfamiliar with the Midnight Server, it's like a smaller version of the internet where everyone understands your Midnight Burger references. It's not a 24/7 discussion of the show, in fact it's mostly a place where people post about what they're eating, what their pet is doing, what ttrpg they are playing, and what they are currently knitting. And then there was that time that BertBert discovered a wasp's nest on her balcony and it was A RED ALERT.

Every once in a while people discuss the show.

Something else that happens on the Discord is "Night Breakfast". Whenever we have a new chapter of the show to unveil, we livestream the episode on the server the night before it's posted to the Patreon and the patrons comment on the show in real time. It's tons of fun and a great way to hang out with people who love the show like you do. Sometimes people eat breakfast at night while listening. Sometimes that breakfast has Funfetti in it. It's a wild time.

Season 3: Strange Attractors
