Day 23 of the Guardian Moon (January)

I had noted that the new queen was rather fond of games.

It was observations such as these which had led me to being able to approach her so casually during the winter gala following the war’s end. Although no longer at each other's throats, there was still more than enough animosity to make for a rather frosty reception between our two peoples.

Trade was the agreement we needed to reach and securing a food supply to help the war torn masses was sure to be in our collective interests. They had the land but we had the labor, making the application of our collective skills work to help reshape the landscape.

It took but only one taste for the newly ascendant Queen Elincia to agree to what our people were capable of doing with their grain. Terms still needed to be struck but as the Dawn Brigade’s tactician and de facto leader, I could not help but try my best to at least try for more favorable terms on behalf of our people.

One grain of rice doubled per square of the chessboard each month in exchange for an additional 10 pounds of our finest wheat seemed like it wouldn’t have been much to start with but when multiplied over each district, I assured her that it would be more than fair. The good queen, still obviously naive to the true ways of the world, would wear her first ten pounds quite nicely by the end of the month as we signed the year long pact.
