I'm up to date on the manga now. You will automatically understand why people don't like this arc when you watch the later arcs. Also, according to me, one piece has the best arc in the history of all anime. I will repeat this comment when we come to the arc.. :))

It is mostly the anime's fault, the story, and humor are there, but sometimes things get unnecessarily stretched by the anime, Skypiea aired in 2005, so let's say, I wouldn't wanna be in the place of people who waited week to week.

Hello ladies! I can always notice that you watch One Piece and enjoy the story because you are connected to the moment and feel what the story conveys. It seems to me that there are few who connect in that way and that is why they may not enjoy some part of the story as much, perhaps because they watch the show in a different way. That is why I love your reactions cause they make me relive everything, even more intensely sometimes. Thank you very much ladies! I know people aren't huge fans of this arc, and talk crap about it, but compared to all the others so far, it's one where the crew is just having an adventure. It's just good, clean fun.

Skypeia is one of the best Arcs. The worldbuilding, the seed sowing, the interaction between the crew! As we get closer to the end it might be worth polling the fans here if you should do G8, the next arc. It is a filler arc BUT widely considered the best of all the non canon arcs. Its is just back to back straw-hat interactive goofiness. I skipped it my first time through and now my wife and I are caught up we went back and we loved it!

When Skypiea first came out people didn’t like it because it was so disconnected from the things they loved on the Blue Dea—no marines, no warlords' etc. They felt it was disconnected from the main plot and not important. This isn’t the case, but it’s what people felt at the time. It was also a very long arc at the time. When it was published it was a quarter of the entire story. It felt like a big time investment for no reason. Again that’s not true and OP is now ridiculously long so Skypieas length doesn’t matter as much, but the reputation followed it ever since

When I caught up to the fan translations, jump in america was way behind when it still was physically available, this was the arc ongoing. I think week to week it seemed like it wasn't as strong, but when you go back to read it without having week breaks it's great. So much lore and foreshadowing in this arc. Personally it's always been one of my favorite arcs even when I was waiting weekly on it.

In a previous episode Wyper said the word paramecia when saw Luffy using his powers...now in this arc you know 3 types of devil fruits: paramecia type, zoan type and logia type...I'm making the comment because when we saw it in the episode Haily wondered about the word but get distracted with the shenanigans haha

I think the best explanation as to why people dislike Skypeia is not because it focuses on the Skypeians and Shandorans/Shandias conflict, but how they do it. This is really the first arc where Oda is casting a wider sense of scope for the world of the series and he just sort of drops the main-characters to use these new characters to deliver a different story and I don't think you'd find that many fans of Wyper, Raki, Braham or McKinley. People are ravenous fans of the Straw Hats though. What Oda has seemingly learned from this arc is to better interweave the Straw Hats into either the history/conflict of future arcs. Or if they can't use Straw Hats, build-up the lore/flashback/side-story over a much longer time so it's more fulfilling for readers/viewers.

I just love watching both of you react to One piece. Trust me, the hype is only gonna get intense as we move ahead. Once you cross episode 225 , it’s gonna be a non stop roller coaster ride. Waiting for more content…..keep up the awesome work

Up until Skypeia we got a general sense of how wide this series is, but its because of Skypeia that we being to understand the depth of One Piece. Love all your theorizing. Keep writing things down, go back and rewatch as often as you need, the best part of this show is the mysteries, and there's always more to find answers to.

Skypeia is a top 3 arc for me personally, the sense of adventure, discovery, wonder, and as you said magical feeling is so rich it makes my inner child smile ear to ear. Among other more narratively relevant aspects better discussed later and Enel being an S+ tier villain I straight up feel sorry for those that can't enjoy this arc; they must be boring people.

Also 174 is an all timer episode for me personally. Robin exploring the hidden ruins is presented so intimately and quiet, and the musical score! ugh! So Good! the atmosphere just feels uniquely special and gives me the biggest chills every time.

people just used to skip skypea because of the rumors that it is not really plotrelevant. now that the plot thickens they realise that it's probably better to watch it so the skypea-arc currently is more known and watched.

The cloud water has the same effect as blue sea water, as we saw when Luffy sank after falling off the waver. HOWEVER, the devil fruit weakness is portrayed slightly differently in OPLA from the manga/anime canon. In OPLA, as you know, seawater renders them powerless, even from a simple splash. In the manga/anime, it doesn't matter where the water is from, it's any body of water, and the devil fruit user grows weaker the more submerged they are, as Luffy grew weaker as the room filled with water in Rain Base.

The knock up stream entrance to skypiea will always hold a special place in my heart. There are maybe 3 or 4 episodes I really don't care about on rewatches, but I love this this arc.

Robin, our Lara Croft ❤️ I think people used to skip Skypeia because back in the days when you didn't know how long One Piece would be, it felt more like a spin-off than part of the story, as we are far from the Blue Sea where other pirates, marines, warlords, etc are. Also because for the longest time this arc had no connections with the rest of the arcs. But Oda connects everything at some point. Everything is there for a reason. Yes, all 3 types of Devil Fruits have been mentioned now. Logia (turning into a natural element) ; Zoan (turning into animal) and Paramithia (all the others basically)
