There were many ghosts of the children that died during final selection at the end after Tanjiro cut the boulder. I don't think it was said explicitly, but it certainly didn't imply that they all died during the same selection year, necessarily. I'd need to go back and rewatch that episode to see what you mean.

I interpreted Shinobu's anger as her having to work with Tamayo, a demon. Remember that she has a seething hatred towards them, so having to work with one must be really upsetting.

I felt like Kagaya getting Tanjiro to help Giyu was like he was preparing him to take care of his family when he dies. Like he thinks Tanjiro would do anything to protect family like he did for Nezuko, so Tanjiro is being entrusted to lead them when Kagaya dies.
