Spinning Red Chair

My favorite part about this episode is the music. It doesn't sound like the Heros have reached their hard earned triumphant victory. It sounds like the villan is just getting started.

That "thing" is called a Hallucigenia in real life. Though it doesn't make people into Titans in our world, the point of it is to show that there is an Origin to how Titans came about. The question is, was it the Hallucigenia that made Ymir into a "Monster" or was it the cruelty of humanity and King Fritz that pushed her to become that?

The reason why there are 9 titans and not more or less is purely incidental. If you look closely at Ymir's titan, you'll notice she has characteristics of many of the 9 titans put together. She is as large as the collosal. She has female body-type like the Female Titan. She has large, skeletal jaw like the Jaw titan. She probably uses hardening for her external rib-cage armor, etc. Basically, what happened is, the 3 daughters ate Ymir, and her power was split in 3. Each of the daughters inherited only PART of Ymir's power. When they fed 3 sisters to another generation, or sometime after that, Eldian's must've finally realized that the power of Ymir can't be multiplied. That the titans are losing characteristics when the power is split among multiple people each time. And that's why they stopped feeding a single titan-shifter to multiple Eldians and established a tradition of 9 titans being passed on, each to a single individual. Eren is first to break that tradition for 2000 years, and you can notice how with each titan he eats, he gains more abilities. It's pretty logical. Also, when it comes to the mysterious worm (NO SPOILERS) its design is based on a real worm that is called Hallucigenia. Until very recently when scientists made new discoveries, it was the most mysterious life form ever found on Earth. Mysterious in the sense that they had no idea how it even ate, or pooped or multiplied. Its organs seemed to have been all missing, like it wasn't complete on its own. Maybe that's where Isayama took the idea that it could be a parasite that wants to attach to other organisms and only then can manifest its true traits and he went that route for his story, since his entire world is very hyper-realistic, he wanted to base the supernatural elements of it in a real life mystery.

Hakuna Madafaka

Ymir was a slave all her life and Eren was the only and the first person in the world who took her not as a slave but as a human being. On one side is Zeke telling her what to do and taking her as a slave while eren gives her the choice of what she wants to do with the power of the founding titan. Like I said, she's been a slave her whole life and this was her first time feeling more like a human than a slave.

Thank you for giving us all three consecutively! I know it was a lot to process mentally and to edit, we appreciate your hard work!

Not a spolier but if you back to the first episode of aot, its called "To you, 2000 years from now"

Congratulations on getting here! Great reactions this week!

Eren Jaeger

I will continue to move forward... until all enemies are exterminated

David Morfin

still get chills when the music plays during the walls falling and THAT eren face

I believe the translation in Japanese names or calls it something closer to "The Source of All Living Matter" My take is that it is similar to the idea of the demiurge. But a rather nasty version, in this telling. (Nasty might be a bit of a rough word... On these second watches there are a lot of little phrases that I think excuse Eren somewhat. Frieda saying that the power can't ever enter "weak hands"

PKS

Eren, you should try having a chill beer sometimes.

Drift3r

Great reaction!!!! Now you can watch the awesome intro spoiler free. I can't wait for your next reaction.

Now you know why we hoped you would watch the last few episodes close together. The vast number and sheer size of what’s coming is unbelievable!

Anguis Viridis

I think Eren was being sarcastic about seeing him eat his father. Dark funny joke

I am running out of things to call the episodes: the episode

Joseph “Jose” Joestar

Eren was the first one in all her life and in those 2,000 years spent trapped in the empty world of the paths, that told her she is a human being and she has a choice. Marleyans treated her like the spawn of the devil, Eldian royalty treated her like a slave, Eldian citizens saw her as a god. Eren saw her as a person.

The flower Ymir kept looking at had 9 petals, 1 petal stained with blood, which she remembered just as she died, thus her spirit split into the 9 Titans upon her death because she remembered the pretty little flower. The thing in the water is, in my opinion, irrelevant to the story. It could be an alien, it could be a devil, a god even, but the story would be the same either way. Eren was the first and only person to reach Ymir without being tainted by royal blood and now his obscure goal this whole time has come to fruition as he reveals it all to Eldians and us, the audience.

Reve Rev

I think Ymir finds it heartbreaking seeing the king look happy around his concubines as Ymir is walking with her 3 daughters. That might be the moment Ymir thinks she no longer has purpose and choose to end everything. She thought she found love, but realized she never did.

Now go watch / rewatch the S2 ED (or hell all of the EDs) and prepare to have your minds blown. AOT has crazy foreshadowing (and hidden outright spoilers), and had an 11/10 anime adaptation w/ hidden stuff (via the author) added to the anime that built up and actually hinted at major plot / worldbuilding reveals *years* ahead of the manga adaptation. Also AOT’s serialization was a trip. It published monthly, meaning you’d get a good… literal half episode, per month. With absolutely crazy reveals, and cliffhangers, in the final arc / S4. Like that chapter from 4x19 that just ended on Eren getting his head cut off. Cue discussion for the next month. Or the cold open to 4x1, with zero context for WTF is going on. Anywho good times. While somewhat… masochistic, AOT was hands down the best serializing manga I’ve ever read. And ditto the anime adaptation that released / aired at, uh, 8x speed. Anywho count yourselves lucky that y’all can binge all of this at your leisure, haha.

Ya Boy

After finishing AoT PLEASE react to the opening and ending for this season with lyrics because the text gives insight to the psyche of Eren and I'm sure you don't want to miss that.

Man I’m so glad I’m doing my rewatch with you guys, my understanding and appreciation for the writing of this show exploded so much. AOT is a weird show but seeing the story as a whole and all the moving parts that set it up to this point has been impressive, it’s skyrocketed as one of my favorite animes now. I haven’t seen the final episodes and the ending yet and I plan to ride it through with you guys. Thanks for being so invested and doing these videos

Attack on Titan is such a masterpiece. It's my 4th rewatch together with you guys and I still tear up and get goosebumps on my whole body...looking forward to the 2 final episodes. Love your reactions. OT: Do you have other animes in queue you want to watch next? Would vote for jujutsu kaisen :D

I view the magical creature as the singular McGuffin the show is allowed. Too often shows and movies will have at least one thing that is inexplicable and true fans will allow it. Many times shows will have too many of these “magic” tools and they get ridiculous. The fact that this show has only one major plot point without an explanation is awesome and fine with me. I’m fine with not knowing where this creature comes from.
