Aaaaaaaahhhh😨

Tututu

SO EXCITEDDDD

Lazer Head

When it all starts to come full circle

Erwin Smith

I'm stepping away from my work office to watch this.

Matthew McAllister

So to clarify, since at the time Grisha was also the Attack Titan he was fed memories of Eren seeing this moment in Grisha's life. So Grisha see's these views of his past through Eren watching him in the future.

Dorak

never clicked so fast, I waited for this for SO long

Xanakone SPT

I thought we have to wait until Wednesday thx u guys haha

Ajinkya Athlye

You're pretty spot on with your conclusions, Eren has seen the future but is missing pieces. And since he is currently the owner of the attack titan, he can choose which memories he wants to send to the previous owners. EVEN the ones before Grisha, which basically means that the entire 'attack titan' persona of fighting for freedom stems from Eren's will because he went right back in to the first attack titan owner and instilled the sense of fighting for freedom.

Aaron

Ah what a treat

PKS

Zeke was able to break vow renouncing war because he went to paths without becoming Founding titan. The, to save Mikasa and Armin line was said by Grisha to little Eren, which Eren Kruger recited. Because at that point Grisha agreed to inherit Attack Titan.

Dog_Chasing_Cars

This is probably the single most brilliant episode. potentially of the whole season. it blew my mind when i first saw it - looks like youve had the same experience! now it really gets interesting! enjoy!

adamisajoker .

Even Eren can't know the full future, because he can only see what his most future self chooses to show his past/present self.

chrislu71 .

Erwin: "Erin, who do you think the enemy is?" Season 1

Ibrahim

The kings past ideals vs eren future ideals

Dorak

if Reiss and thus Historia died, a lot would have changed like the fake king would still be here, Ymir wouldn't have joined the scouts, Reiner/Bert/Ymir would have escaped with Eren in S2 since Ymir doesn't wait for Historia, they probably wouldn't gain access to the titan serum that saved Armin, etc. But also Eren wouldn't have learned the hardening nor about his father (bc Reiss is the one giving him the memories) or kissed Historia's hand during the celebration at the end of S3 which allowed him to see the future and the events of S4 basically

Reginald

Thank you for having love for Zeke! Zeke was derive from Ezeikial, some biblical figure that saves everyone. Grisha tells zeke, “zeke, you must save everyone”, The euthanasia plan would effectively save everyone from eldia and eldia from everyone else. Zeke unconsciously following his dad’s orders Also Eren can send what memories he chooses to who he wants…as for prior inheritors doing this, it wouldn’t make sense to cover that considering this story isn’t about that

Paul Quigley

Remember the good old days when titans were eating people for no reason? Life was so simple then...

Gin-liberio

Grisha gave into his desire for vengeance. The only way to do that was to inject young Eren with the serum & feed him the Titans. If Grisha didn't give the titans to Eren, his Titan would just be transferred to a random Eldian upon his death. He had no choice, if he died the titan power would be gone and all his work would be for nothing. Grisha still holds hatred for the world that caused through cascading events his sister’s crude death.

Steve Gillis

Easily a top 3 AOT episode.

Alex Nelson

I love 1:22, haha. I don't think he's trying to trick Zeke again, he's just being really catty and sarcastic. "Yep, you figured it out, I'm totally cured now, blah blah blah *eyeroll*".

Ibrahim

Crazy that Frieda family influenced her to fight even tho she didn’t wanted and eren pushed grisha. It goes into eren conversation at 4x03 “most people are pushed by something, forced to march into hell. That something wasn’t their choice, their situation or others made them do it”

chrislu71 .

You two did fantastic with this critical episode. I'm sure everyone in the comments are going to be typing up everything they know about it but the truth is this was an incredibly complex episode. A book could be written on how much is revealed from this twist. The fact of the matter is people are still talking about it today

Dorak

it has some of Eren's will, but it could also be from the next Attack Titan too, we don't know yet if someone will get to eat Eren - in the end it's mostly the will of the last person to ever inherit the Attack Titan that shapes the previous ones

zoisekai

Basically, Eren saw the spoilers when he kissed Historia's hand.

Gin-liberio

Eren didn’t lie, he just showed Grisha specific memories to provoke and incite Grisha’s hatred motivating him to move forward. He evoked his memories, Eren reminded him why he was here. Grisha didn’t want to kill kids, he got sentimental & weak for a second but Eren asserted Grisha’s mission, reaffirmed his convictions to kill the Reiss family for Eldia.

Reds919

“Keep moving forward” is the best quote of the show in my opinion. I have goosebumps every time.

Randy Flash

This is one of the most complexe cases of time traveling I have ever encountered. Long story short, Zeke uses the power of the founder to watch Grisha's memories in 4k with Eren, while watching everything in 4K wtv he sees becomes his (Eren) memories, including seeing Zeke in Grisha's memories... now the Attack titan can send memories to past inheritors, basically Eren sent a memory of bearded Zeke being in the basement with him, in real time. So from Grisha's perspective he is receiving a memory of the same room he is in with Zeke in front of him (to send this memory Eren had to be looking at Zeke as well thats why he was behind Grisha). Its crazier actually... cuz Rod has probably been saved, so that he could protect Historia, and Historia is the reason Eren saw himself manipulating his dad to kill everybody... lol so basically evil Eren, to communicate with his dad, had to send him memories of what he was looking in the chapelle in real time, those memories became Grisha's memories, which became young Eren's memories that were unlocked by kissing Historia's hand... so that was the purpose behind Rod's survival... so that Young Eren could see old Eren manipulate his dad, thru his dad memories. Do u get it? If u dnt get it forget about it

Tony Garcia

“What is happening?!?…” prob the best way to sum up AOT 😂 love to see it

James Lyles

Like I said before in a previous episode comment, this show makes you question who is right/wrong and good/evil

Manuel Gomez

Just to explain a bit, everything Grisha saw regarding Eren and Zeke's presence, he saw from eren's pov, he was seeing himself from Eren's eyes and yes the they can select what memories the previous attack titan holders can see. We don't any deep analysis on how this works later on so don't let your brain's explode over this other than just for funsies 😭

Kiyoshi

best episode of the series

Phillip

its a whole new show again, again, again :)

Sphygmus

There is this theory that Eren is the reason the Attack Titan wielders always fight for freedom. Remember when Eren was in prison and was talking to himself in the mirror, saying "fight, fight" and Hange came in and questioned him about it? Some people say that he is just sending the previous Attack Titan wielders the message to always fight. Kind of a cool thing to think about.

baja

When eren kissed historia's hand He saw grisha's memory, Meaning he saw (through grisha's eye) glimpses of future himself appearing here and there and putting words into his ear, all the way to the chapel incident. Now with the founding titan, grisha is seeing himself through future eren's eye. When zeke disconnected from the path he saw young eren's face at the queen ceremony, All this was happening at the same time. This alone should make you see why eren became depressed at the end of s3. How do you even process something like this

Persef

greatest episode of all time

Devon Joseph

Yeah, Adult Eren influenced the past already and now the audience is caught up to what is basically the present. If consider that everything is a continuous loop, everything in AOT has happened already and Adult Eren is making sure the timeline keeps pace by being the "conduit" for that change. I believe this is only possible with the Founder and Paths, titans can see memories of those they eat but only the Attack Titans can see the memories of Attack Titans in the future.

HailKingRagnar1

Eren the ultimate manipulator playing 4d chess whole season 4 XD

Golden Hotdog

So crazy how zeke can go from a despised to extremely sympathetic character within such a short number of episodes.

Green Hog

Attack titan can see the future. Founding titan can manipulate memory if is connected to a royal blood Eldian. Grisha had both for a moment but no royal blood to activate founding power. Eren had both and when he kissed Historia’s hand he used that moment to go through history and change everything that he wanted in the past so he could do whatever he wanted in the future

Green Hog

Grisha was dumb. He should’ve eaten Frida, but kept one of her siblings alive, so he could touch them and activate the power whenever he needed to

Wunder

yeah he was totally of sound mind and body to execute a plan. I'm sure he could just drag along a royal child through the streets without any issue and use them whenever he wanted.

earvin

I honestly think it’s much simpler than that. The attack titan has been passed on to someone that was not a Warrior or anyone on Paradis for who knows how long. It’s unique in a sense that it fell to the hands of a Patriot. spoiler I think him talking to himself saying “tatakae” is him continuing to push forward even if he doesn’t necessarily want to. He has to convince himself that it’s right and gets angry at Hange because he really wants to know what other way is there

nic

Regarding your discussion about the Attack Titan's abilities to see the future, do you guys remember when Eren Kruger mentioned Armin and Mikasa while speaking to Grisha? That's a good moment to look back on after this revelation.

Sphygmus

Maybe. Who knows? The theory I talked about also implies that Eren has been influencing every decision of every Attack Titan that came before him.

2024-05-22 19:59:49 I always liked the theory that the attack titan's fight for freedom is due to eren. But I never connected that to the mirror scene - that's awesome! I figured he was motivating himself to keep going, but i like the idea that it's both. This Grand command of "fight!"

I believe the seeing the future things is just what Grisha believes is happening. I don’t think it’s inherent to the attack titan, after all other pre shifters have had glimpses of the future I.e Falco. I think it’s more prominent in the Eden and Grisha’s case because of this episode. Having royal blood in Zeke allowed him to unlock the potential of the founding and send memories back to Grisha creating an illusion of seeing the future. If the Attack titans unique ability is to see the future but Eren is only spoonfeeding him certain memories then we know it’s actually the founding titans power since Grisha can’t control it.

earvin

Yes, even if he wanted to stop Eren, he soon finds out Carla died due to Marley’s attack. This probably reignited his hatred and had nothing else to live for but revenge on the world.

Allen Valdes

Does the attack titan see the future? Or does it see past timelines? Isayama has fooled us all

Kevin

I love how you say this without considering the fact that Grisha doesn’t know that he can activate the power by touching them, nor the fact that Eren instructed him to kill everyone but Rod Reiss.

Spinning Red Chair

Think about the moment that changed Eren. For some reason, after he kissed Historias hand during her indoctrination, he became distant. Loathing. Well what do we know about the Founding Titan? That it needs Royal blood to function. And we already know that Royal Blood can trigger the Founding Titans power just from touch, like it did with Dina and Eren. When Eren kissed Historias hand he saw something... something terrible. Something so awful that it made him freeze, but it was also inevitable. Eren saw into the future

SweetLike Cyanide

This is the theory I buy into. I fully believe that the attack titan never had a special ability to see through future inheritor's memories, and that was just the explanation/assumption Grisha came to when he started seeing Eren's future, and remembered Kruger mentioning Armin and Mikasa. I believe previous attack titans were able to see memories that Eren passed to them through the coordinate, not just future inheritors in general. Eren specifically. I believe he even had a hand in his own birth by having Kruger tell Grisha to have a family within the walls. Also, it's wild how quickly Kiss came to this theory on her own. I only really considered this upon a second watch. These two are insanely intuitive and observant.

Lil Reaper JR

I like how you girls went from "Poor Eren" to "Poor Grisha" in the very same episode

Cation

Grisha saw Eren's future memories of him visiting Grisha's past memories. So Grisha sorta mirrored himself through Future Eren's pov. When Eren looked at Zeke, Grisha seeing the future memories of Eren saw Zeke right in front of him.. The change in Eren all happened when he kissed Historias hand. He saw a future version of himself, pushing his father to complete the mission. That is why when you rewatch that last episode in season 3 you actually realise why he is so shocked. I swear I feel so bad for Grisha, he has witnessed some brutal shit all the way back from Liberio to now. Masterclass of a voice actor too. Great reaction

baja

People will call you a copium addict if you dig too deep in the story, but dont forget, stories as this are suppose to be personal, they are yours to interprete. Eventhough aot was published in shonen, its not. It has enough depth for tyou to extract multiple message from it

ABeezy85

Thanks for the Tuesday upload. 🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾❤️

Maia Brodsky

Yes, it seems Eren was disgusted with Grisha for needing to be convinced to follow through. One correction though: the royal family Founding titans couldn't have broken the chains/vow like Zeke did, because they were controlled by the vow. Zeke was only spared from that mind control because he doesn't possess the Founding titan. Eren does. So the loophole was using contact with Eren to reach the Paths. This is why Ksaver told him it had to happen that way. If Zeke actually became the Founding titan, his royal blood would have meant he'd be controlled by the First King of the Walls, just like Frieda and Uri.

Kayden 21

I always consider this the best episode of the show. Not to say all the episodes after are not also amazing but finally getting these reveals after so much build up is so satisfying. That ending scene is also just phenomenal.

Erik

Being able to see parts of the future through memories of future users is an Attack titan thing, and Grisha can’t see “all of it” because Eren is choosing what memories to allow Grisha too see in order to manipulate him to do what he wants. It’s kinda complicated lol

Manro

it’s always been eren

Pioka

The attack titan can’t see the future all they saw were erens memories that he sent to them. Eren only saw his own memories because his dad had seen his memories

Israel

One. More. Episode! Can't wait!

Boguś z Kielc

This episode be like: 1. Bad Griesha. 2. Wow, poor Griesha! 3. Poor Eren 4. Wow, BAD Eren! 5. Bad Zeke. 6. Wow, poor Zeke! Honestly the best twist episode of any TV show I've ever seen. Every reaction I see of this episode is an absolute rollercoaster for the viewer. And it was exactly the same for me when I first watched it. Masterfully written show.

j m

All your answers will be answered and itll have you on the floor. trust

jim8333

yeah, season 1-3 normal timeline. But At the end of season 3 he kisses historia's hand when the main squad make it home, (the flashes in the episode) and gets a glimpse of his dads memories. He sees an older version of himself, forcing his dad to execute the reiss family in the cave, and that contact with the royal blood is when he starts seeing the memories of his dad and the owl (him acting weird in prison). Since then he's been on the path to appear in his dads memories by connecting with zeke and exploring them

chrislu71 .

To me, Grisha is the most interesting and tragic character I have ever known. The irony of his life is that in his youth he raised Zeke to carry on his dream for Eldia but in doing so turned Zeke away from him. When Grisha was given a second chance he was wise enough to fix the mistakes he made with Zeke and allow Eren to grow up freely to live whatever life he wanted. The irony is that Eren chose the path that Zeke was suppose to inherent. Poor Grisha... Even after apologizing to Zeke for being such a terrible father, he still had to burden him with saving the world again... from Eren.

T

Kiss's point about Kruger not understanding "whose memories they were" is pretty interesting. The only person that talks about the Attack Titan having this extra ability is Grisha. Nobody else including the Royal family don't seem to know about it. Even Eren doesn't answer Zeke when he immediately asks about "knowing the future" It seems to just be Grisha's interpretation of what he experienced.

chrislu71 .

Btw that line Kruger said to Grisha about Mikasa and Armin was almost exactly the the same line Grisha said to Eren before he gave him the titan powers. In fact, it was the last thing Grisha ever said. Kruger was seeing Grisha's last memory, not Eren's.

Kevin Ramirez

Something that I want to add that is not directly expressed in this series is that, with the Founding Titan's power, time is basically nonexistent. They are literally reliving his Dad's memories IN REAL TIME. This whole episode lasted years in real-time in accordance with the show. Remembering this little detail will also help interpret a lot of the future episodes 😊.

chrislu71 .

Yes I kinda agree. Just like how King Fritz's will is passed down to the next founding titan holders. But because the attack titan can see forward Eren's will is passed upward to the past attack titans. Basically, its vow to fight vs a vow to renounce fighting. Eren and king Fritz are fighting each other through their pawns Freda and Grisha.

Zain kb

Remember when historia didn’t get mad of eren because she thought he has nothing to do with his father killing her family 😭 if only she knew

BONUS VIDEO 🙏🏻 Been waiting on this one for a while. Great reaction and Haylo is just wayyyy too smart for anything to surprise her I think lmao

Lt_Laz

I have a clarification for you regarding the founding titan and the vow renouncing war Note: this comment does not contain spoilers, but it does take into account that you have already watched episode 21, FYI I think the whole «Zeke got around the vow renouncing war» is secerely misunderstood. So, what we know is that a member of the royal family having the founding titan are bound to the vow. However, from ep 20, we can assume that the power of the founding titan is to enter the «sand plane», or the coordinate place. From this plane, we learn from ep 21 that royal fam members can make Ymir do whatever they want. But again, for some reason, royal fam members with the founder cannot, and that has to be because they cannot enter the plane by some resteiction, or that they can enter but not command Ymir. However, in Zeke and Erens case, then Eren was the one entering the plane with Zeke since he has the founder. While there, he cannot command Ymir since she only listenes to royals. However, Zeke entered the plane with Eren WITHOUT having the founder, so now he is not bound by the vow, and hence he can command Ymir. The whole «Zeke broke the chains» thing was probably just a scam from Zeke’s part so that he could listen to Erens true feelings. He said himself that the «founder Ymir can make whatever as long as I command her, even these chains», so he probably just told her to make the chains before Eren woke up Anyway, long comment, I hope it helped. And if there are any manga readers here which have more information than I do (anime only) then please lecture me if I’m wrong :)

Goon

I love the God complex aspect of AOT. Grisha receiving revelations of pre-determined events then the scene of Grisha calling out to Eren in desperation for more answers/prophecies. Cool stuff

Lone Wolf Knight

I don't think I'm ready for next episodes reaction. Also how the hell am I a nearly 30 year old man and I still tear up watching this show for the 100th time?

Theo Traumato

"Im remembering the good ol days" ah yes, the good old days when moms and friends gets eaten by horrible gigantic monsters.

Silverghost

Damn, hearing your thoughts after the episode makes me grin. Now on to the next one to reveal the best arc!

Stephen Ray

They appear to be able to still command Ymir - that's how they erase memories, etc..

Anthony Orozco

Watching y’all tear up towards the end hit me the way I did when I realized what was going on too 😭

PdotX

Does Eren exist because of the 'Attack Titan' or does the 'Attack Titan' exist because of Eren? Wanna hear yal thoughts on this

Joshua

Siiiiiiisttteeeerrrrssss isn’t this crazy bananas! xD

CZ2 Delta

Something that people pointed out in other reactor's videos about this part: Grisha only sees what Eren wants him to see, so he could manipulate him into doing all the steps leading to this point. Also, Grisha can only see Eren's POV when he sees the future. He sees as if he was Eren, so he cannot see Eren. He sees Zeke because Eren was looking at Zeke during those moments.

CZ2 Delta

Answering your question at 18:00 : If Eren didn't tell Grisha to leave Rod Reiss alive, then Historia would have died. Eren truly cares for Historia and doesn't want her to become a tool or get hurt. If Reiss doesn't make it back then, he never goes back to Historia as a backup plan to get the Founder back into a Royal blood vessel. Kenny would end up killing both the mom and the daughter without Rod's intervention.

CZ2 Delta

Whenever you watch what's next, just remember this scene with Grisha. Him telling Zeke to stop Eren, crying and saying ''I saw what comes next from Eren's memories, and I'd never imagined it would be so horrible''. Grisha has seen horrible things in his live and has done many horrible things. So what has he seen that makes him this worried?

Hans

*spoilers* I would think technically, Eren exists because of the Attack Titan. But since everything is predetermined, you can also say that the Attack Titan exists because of Eren. Or because it's predetermined and Eren has no sense of time, both are true at the same time? Perhaps they both exist because of each other. It's an interesting thought tbh lol. What are your thoughts on it?

Hans

Went from season 1 "I can't wait until they-" and we're already on the final stretch 😭

freshfruitbox

Things are gonna get so crazy haha

yates

Even though Grisha regretted obeying Eren, he still gave his power to Eren when he learned that Carla was dead(3X11 Bystander)and “save mikasa, armin” is in the 1X9 that Grisha told Eren

Talha Sayed

Hands down you guys are the best AOT reactor out here!! It’s a real treat to relive this masterpiece with you guys! Ooof all these emotions and then your reactions are just icing on the cake!!! Making this experience even more epic!!!!🫶🏼

PdotX

I'd say the attack titan exist because of Eren, because his resolve has always been the same (he was born this way) just like the attack titan who "fought for freedom" since the beginning of time. So if the 'Attack titan' transcends time and see future inheritors memories, but ONLY Eren's memories were being fed to both Grisha and Krueger to influence their actions, (both of their resolve to restore Eldia came after traumatic events) whose to say if Eren wasn't manipulating prior 'attack titans' with memories as well. So for the entirety of time, the attack titan exist because of Eren

Kaden Koennecke

YESSSSSS! you guys got to the reveal! Eren has his own agenda! and you guys arent wrong haha hes absolutely horrifying! i cannot wait to see your reactions to the rest of the season <3

Josey

Zeke: eren grisha manipulated you Eren: yes but actually no

Josey

*spoilers* Eren is the future

Miguel Gonzalez

I think y'all took one breath this episode

Jer emy

Such a good episode and reaction too.

earvin

The founding titan is bound to the will of its past inheritor(King Fritz) while the Attack titan is bound to the will of its future inheritor(eren). The kings vow was for peace and Eden’s vow was to destroy the world

Albertan Motorcyclist

@earvin POTENTIAL SPOILERS: I believe the ability to see future inheritors memories is in fact an attack titan ability, as otherwise it would suggest that the all other inheritors of the founding titan could have completely messed around with the timeline at some point, which we can assume didn't happen. Eren Krueger himself is able to see Grisha's memories, and particularly one's important for convincing Grisha to accept his role (You must save Mikasa and Armin for example), but we have no indication Krueger saw anything of Eren's memories. However, the ability to actually manipulate Grisha as Eren did is not possible with the attack titan ability alone, as "being present" in Grisha's memories required the founding titan. Eren is presumably the only person to have ever had simultaneous access to both titan's ability, which is how he was able to manipulate the timeline as he did. The only way it works that the attack titan ability being fake is that the ability to send memories to the past was only possible once Eren had liberated Ymir and she gave him that ability, and that it was not previously an option to past founding titans.

Albertan Motorcyclist

I overall agree with your analysis, except for the mechanic of the vow renouncing war and how it limits the abilities of the Reiss bloodline. I don't think the vow itself actually has any intrinsic control on the ability to enter the paths nor on being able to control Ymir, as we know the founding titan is still able to do things like wipe memories even with the vow. The vow itself is a will transferred to Reiss founding titan holders that doesn't limit their power, what it does is control the founding titan holder's mindset so that they won't command Ymir to do thigs contrary to the vow, rather than them being physically unable to. The vow itself alters their behavior and beliefs even when they aren't using the founding titan abilities.

Albertan Motorcyclist

The main reason is that Eren needs Historia to end up where she does so that he can touch her and gain the future memories he showed his father. Historia only joined the military because Rod Reiss made her after he survived Grisha's attack. Without leaving Rod alive, it's unlikely Eren would ever have met Historia and gained the memories he sent to Grisha

Lt_Laz

That sounds reasonable, I can to that :) thanks for the clarification.

Eoin573

There was nothing else he could do, and he had already went through so far as murdering the whole family and obtaining the founding titan at the end of his lifespan. If he couldn't follow through and give it to Eren then, both sides would be back to square one. All Grisha could do is hope that Zeke could somehow stop him within the future memories he wasn't given

James Williams

The flashback of Eren’s mom saying I know you’re lying because your ears go red to adult Eren with his hair covering his ears was brilliant.

Regie Khemvisay

this is where its kind of confusing bcoz its Eren who convinced him to continue but Eren also knows that things have to unfold just as he had seen in his past so seeing it like Grisha dont wanna do it, he knew he has to do something..fight! ughh time is all the past, present and future

Regie Khemvisay

the Eldian's sins is like the original sin.. we ddnt do shoot but everyone supposed to enherit the sin Eve and Adam committed

Hans

That's a really good point. Now it got me really thinking: did Ymir/Curse of Ymir technically create Eren (due to the creation of the Nine titans)? My mind is doing backflips now lol.

Joshua

Oh the rabbit hole goes sooooo deep 🫨🫨🫨

Joshua

That dad joke was CRAZY

Evelyn Rebecca

why am i just realizing that eren told his dad the same thing eren kruger told grisha on the wall 💀
