everything is black and gold... or trying to be. I started decorating my altar yesterday but it's not really coming together yet. I also changed my hair to red and now I don't have a pendant that matches it which is the main way I coordinate my look. in a lot of ways, it feels like I may have jumped into change too soon and I find myself underprepared for a lot of things. except work. I never really feel prepared for work, even after getting into the groove of just always working on stuff. it's not a main video, but I have a little surprise uploading right now in time for halloween. a dark background music playlist for any activities you may be planning. there will be spooky videos, but they're gonna drag into fall/winter as I have rather quickly learned that scripts don't write themselves - and I suck at improvising. by now I am completely booked for the week with appointments, livestreams, fear fest and much video work. the only thing that keeps me sane is the fresh autumn breeze and a deep feeling of centeredness that has been accompanying me ever since my path has led me to the opposite of avoidance of myself. I reject the insecurity planted in me by people who wrote me off the second I started showing signs of free will. I once again want to know what I've always known. I think the energy of my future work will reflect this new found stability and will be an overall positive influence for many of you.
I hear you had some questions?
Do you like folk music? Yes, it's one of my favorite genres. Nothing is ever quite as catchy and soulful as folk. Here's one of my favorite folk songs playlist. It's so fun to sing along it made me learn the lyrics. Thankfully Ukrainian is close enough to Russian that I kind of understand most of it.
What kind of books does Jack usually like to read? SciFi, fantasy, horror
Jack’o’lanterns: carved, painted, or not your thing? they are still new to me and I would love to try pumpkin carving at least once, but probably not this year since our schedule is already packed. I do love the aesthetic of the glowing faces so they are fun to look at all around town. though the painted ones are probably bad for the animals that are inevitably going to try and eat them so those get a big thumbs down from me.
Do you have any favorite poets? nah. as with books, I don't really pay attention to the authors. I consume them for the information and inspiration they offer, though I have noticed a shift lately where I want to explicitly credit every person who has contributed to my videos in any way, so I may end up remembering authors, poets and artists more than I used to.
What's the next "American" thing you'd like to experience? the next thing on my list is a haunted house (the ones with actors, not waiting around all night for a ghost to throw a cup at my head). I don't scare easily but I would still like to experience it at least once. It sounds like a lot of fun.
How long did it take you to get your green card? almost 6 months, but they had me come in to the USCIS again to take my prints and photo right around the 6 month mark when I should have received it very soon after moving here since I already did all that at the embassy in Germany. we think they may have lost it lmao
Do you prefer the city, the countryside or both? Both have their perks. if only I could live somewhere that's peaceful and close to nature like the countryside but with the internet and 24/7 entertainment options of a metropolis that would be great thanks. if I had to choose, I would pick the countryside where I can escape the pitfalls of sensory overload.
Do you like enchiladas? I've never had one so I can't say.
Does Jack like dry humor? Yes.
Do you have a favorite flavor when it comes to ice cream? rum raisin, fight me about it.
Have you read Lord of the rings? no. I've seen the movies and found them to be rather boring. I actually fell asleep during the first one.
Do you like to wear earrings? yes, earrings are my favorite kind of jewelry and I adore what they can do for a look aswell as the proximity to the throat chakra for strategically placed healing crystals. however, I appear to be allergic to most metals, as my ears are always red and swollen after wearing any of them for any amount of time. if not for that, I would have a collection of earrings by now.
If you were a bird what kind of bird would you rather be? I'd be a vulture cause I like to be left in peace. vultures don't really have natural predators and no one wants to fuck with them. they're big enough to fight off most critters and just chill and dumpster dive all day.
Do you believe mind reading might be possible one day? absolutely. I've been known to read the minds of people I'm close with, though that only works when I am intimately acquainted with someone's soul and most people really don't want to get close enough to me for me to be able to read them. but thoughts are way more easily accessible than most people think. all you have to do is tune in to the thought matrix and you just know. it doesn't take a lot. I'm more surprised people have avoided being attuned to each other for this long but I like it that way. enjoy the privacy while you can.
Do you and Jack like card games? yes. I'm a little more into them than he is. something about missing out on most things due to an extremely isolated upbringing.
Do you like hot chocolate? yes. and it's finally the season for it! I like to make some after dinner to enjoy with our evening ritual of relaxing on the couch and watching netflix. the other day I made a delicious one with cherry chocolate baileys.
Have you read His dark materials? no.
Do you still have that small table you made with bottles glued to it? no. unfortunately it didn't fit into my suitcase. I'd happily make something like that again, though we're not really pressed for coffee/end tables. if anything, it would have to be a plant stand. but if we can save up enough, our priority will be getting a dining table and chairs. I have my eye on one and I hope it will still be there by the time we have the extra funds.
Do you have a favorite stranger things character? no.
Have you ever heard of a mayan bat god called Camazotz? no. though the gods of the old world are a very unique bunch. it's almost fantastical, the kinds of creatures and entities people used to pray to and worship. that's not to say they aren't completely real and legitimate. just that from our modern point of view, a lot of them sound quite fantastical. I love them for that. I have a pretty good idea what they are, but that's for another day.
In the spirit of Halloween... Got Candy? I don't know if there's an alternate interpretation for that question, though it makes me think there should be since both words are capitalized for some reason, but I am pop culture illiterate so I shall answer it literally. yes, at this moment in time we possess things you may call candy. I personally don't see it that way, for this candy is one of the healthy recipes I tried out and doesn't quite do the original it is modeled after justice. I swear, name one "healthy" version of a candy that isn't a complete and utter disappointment. and the "unhealthy" candy I made is gone because it was actually delicious. so you may say we possess candy, but the truth of the matter is more complex than that. due to our weekly grocery budget, we prioritize foods that are distinctly not candy and the vast majority of candy that has ever seen the inside of this house is made in this very kitchen by someone who is utterly obsessed with chocolate and baked goods. in that way, marrying me pays every single day. my treats oftentimes turn out better than store bought and I pride myself in making food and candy that's worthy of our grocery bill.
Have you ever made candles from scratch? not entirely from scratch. I have made candles from scrap wax from other candles and it turns out - it's an art! it sounds like it would be as easy as melting the wax, butt there's so much more to it. I for one like to make spell candles so I will add oils and spices only for them to completely evaporate and sink all the way to the bottom in less than the time it takes for the wax to solidify. then you have to wick them properly because the wrong size, material and thickness will result in tunneling candles that put themselves out after what seems like an awfully short time. pouring hot wax over a wick or submerging one in hot wax will cause it to shift inside the jar even if you make sure to fix the top of it so you end up with a crooked wick and bad candle. eventually I decided to stick with enchanting pre-made candles which is much less frustrating.
that was all the questions we had today, as always there will be another post at the beginning of the next month where you can ask me anything. I'm looking forward to it and I hope you all have an exciting halloween. I have to go tend to the senior kitizen who wouldn't shut up for the last 10 minutes straight 🎃
