Pancakes, waffles or french toast? If that is the question, yes is usually the answer.

I often put up recipes for bonus video choices on the mega tier and they usually get a good amount of votes, yet never quite enough to become a video. So I hope I can brighten your day with some wicked cookery as individual little easter egg posts every now and again. Today I am sharing with you one of my favorite breakfast recipes: Maple Bacon French Toast ๐Ÿ

Nothing hits quite as satisfying as the salty-sweet flavor profile of this decadent dish. And it's rather easy to make when you're not taking a million pictures of every ingredient for a recipe post. If you have bread, butter, eggs, salt, bacon and maple syrup - you're all set!

The hardest part is making the savory french toast. You start by taking 3 medium eggs

(haha get it? I hid them like easter eggs... nevermind)

and cracking them in a reasonably deep dish

where you can simply whisk them with a small pinch of salt and set it aside.

Now, most recipes would tell you to put in additional things, like milk, sugar or cinnamon. I won't tell you to do that because I find that adding milk makes it far too soggy. I like my french toast with a bit of a crisp and a bit of a bite - and just the eggs by themselves give you a deliciously chewy and crispy result rather than a melty soft and moist one.

Then you take 4 slices of bread

and coat them evenly in your beaten eggs

I cut mine into triangles so I could fit more pieces into my small pan, but you don't have to.

Heat a pan up to medium heat and melt some butter in it

I suggest using about half a tablespoon per fry. If you want to use less than that, just know that I disapprove. You can also sub any oil except canola oil. When it's melted and the oil is hot, add your soaked bread slices and simply cook them on both sides until they're a rich golden brown.

That'll give them those scrumptious crispy edges. Don't let my camera fool you into thinking I burned them. This is an acceptable shade of toast.

After you've artfully arranged your french toast pieces, use the already hot pan to fry some bacon or bacon bits to the desired crispness

and simply dump them all over your french toast. It'll taste extra delicious if you pour over the bacon grease, too. I never claimed this was a diet recipe.

Finish by drizzling/dowsing it in maple syrup and you have yourself a delectable breakfast or brunch dish. To be perfectly honest, the bacon overpowers any maple flavor from the syrup - so if you don't have any, you can easily sub any other (unflavored) syrup or a little honey. If you're using honey, I recommend watering it down ever so slightly or using very sparingly because it's a lot sweeter than most syrups.

Easy, right?

And just like that you have an impressive and hearty meal that'll equally comfort you and give you strength. This makes a very substantial portion, but if you want a more moderate portion you can easily make the same recipe with 3 slices of bread and 2 eggs. It depends how hungry you are and how many people you're cooking for. If you're serving this as part of a brunch menu for a family, you can probably feed 2-3 people on this recipe easily. But if you're getting ready for a long busy day, a hearty breakfast like this should keep you satisfied until dinner.

This dish is best enjoyed warm and fresh and with a cup of aromatic coffee.

Be sure that you're using white bread or any bread that is reasonably dry and absorbent. Don't go try this recipe with pumpernickel and then bitch at me that it doesn't taste nice lol. I figure even in a quarantine kitchen you'd have bread, eggs and possibly bacon aswell as a few pantry staples. The egg-bread ratio is perfectly adjusted to give you a crispy, almost battered and fried tasting bread without a super soggy center so don't fuck with my ratio. Let me know how you like it if you give this a try! I hope you're all healthy and I'll see you soon with a new video.

Sir Wolf

I actually tried to make these once. Came out a little too dark. I'd love to see you do a cooking/baking asmr video. Or any other kind of tutorial.

Thank you so much for this. I'll be trying these soon.
