“Oh to be 17 again” Really? You’d be 17 again? I’m guessing you weren’t as much of a loser as these guys then.

MeganRuth

😂 I just meant it as a way of saying that when you're 17 the problems you think are super important aren't really that important... but to be fair, 17 wasn't a bad age for me. 14 was when it was really awkward! 😅

Adam

You saying you would definitely have watched this when growing up actually makes me a bit sad, I think we take it for granted that in Britain we were a bit spoiled and grew up with the best comedies from both here and across the pond (mainly US ones admittedly, but it would be a bit like me never seeing South Park, a show I grew up on and loved, and would be a bit annoyed if I were only just discovering it now!).

Martin Phillp

Was that guy French Canadian that you found hot?

MeganRuth

I'm not annoyed I'm just discovering it now! But yes, it's such a shame that such wonderful British TV has never crossed our boarders. That being said, my parents in Canada are very fond of their Brit Box subscription!

Adam

Our next colonisation of the world via humour continues! Seriously though we are a little bit proud of our comedy and love to see it being spread around!

Adam

I was in Montreal a few years ago, and got talking to a French Canadian who said that he absolutely loved the sound of my accent. I’ve got a fairly neutral British accent so I was like, “are you serious, you speak with a French accent!” Yeah it’s a very sexy accent, I guess it’s not so common in the West of Canada.

MeganRuth

To be fair, most Canadians would probably say any British accent is sexy 😂 also this is just personal preference, but I don’t find the French Canadian accent very appealing! It’s very different from the France French accent.

Martin Phillp

My mum is half French and she mocks the Québecois accent because of how they pronounce French words. They also have their own French slang words which are different from standard French.

Adam

I found the French Canadian accent lovely, with one excepton, the way they pronounce 'yes' ('oui'), it sounds like a bad Manchester accent trying to speak French! Gotta add though that I love Montreal, one of my favourite cities I've visited.

MeganRuth

😂 yes Québecois French is quite a bit different from the original French language, that's for sure!

MeganRuth

Ahh I've never been to Montreal! I'd love to go one day. I have been to Quebec city though which is lovely!

Martin Phillp

There's defintenly a North American twang to their French. I've been able to put on French Canadian TV for my mum (Ici-Télé) and it's hard, but you can hear the difference in the pronunciation of words. FYI, I have a friend from Barrie, so always mocking her about "eh", "aboot" and Canadian Bills being Monopoly money!

Martin Phillp

Adam, they use "ouh" rather than oui for common conversations, but oui is used as well.

As an aside, the guy who played Patrice has actually gone on to have a decent career in France

Adam

Cheers Martin! I certainly wasn't having a go at the pronunciation (regional variations are what make language great!), just trying to describe what it sounded like to my ears.
