I think it was one of the first British sitcoms to feature some really great female characters! Don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but Connie Booth, the actress who plays Polly (the waitress) co-wrote Fawlty Towers, and I suspect had a big hand in this. She was also married to John Cleese at the time (yeah, she looks way younger than Cleese, but there’s actually only a 1 year age gap between them!).
