Early look at episode 7 and one of the more overlooked players of the 3-point era. I think the '92 and '93 are fairly close, although there's a little extra scoring polish and passing in these seasons that brings them to the top.

Isn't hakeems peak earlier?

This was super interesting, and the late career Admiral-Bill Russell comparison was fun: superstar bigs with all time level impact without a dominant scoring game. But also, we've reached the era of the 3 point era monster bigs! Admiral, Hakeem, Shaq, Timmy, KG... HYPEEEE

Anonymous

I think Russell and the admiral are closer than many would realise, infact thats what many compared him to as a rookie, Pat Riley said he was "the spitting image of Russell" (in terms of playstyle)

I read that in 91 or 92 there were rumours the bulls would trade Jordan straight up for Drob

I'm curious which years Hakeem's video will cover, or if there will be a Hakeem video at all, since I thought he'd be next after MJ lol

Anonymous

No way Hakeem's left out. Definitely strange he was skipped. I guess Ben's got a narrative he wants to tell.

Anonymous

If you wait until the very end of the video, it implies Hakeem will be the focus of the next video.

Anonymous

Hakeem is the next one lol. Yall need to watch til the very end

The comment was posted before I watched the Robinson video lol

Ben Taylor

Have you ever seen that confirmed? There was a trade rumor back in '88 or something around MJ IIRC but don't think anything after Phil was real...

Ben Taylor

Hakeem is '93-95. The videos go in *roughly* chronological order. There will be a bit more jumping around in time after Hakeem.

Anonymous

I may be misremembering, I just read it in the dream team basketball book ill have a look

Anonymous

Yeah but Ben said it'd be chronological order, just weird he did drob first

_kags

my wild prediction is that KG (03-04) goes before Duncan (02-03) too, for similar anti- popular narrative(?) purposes 🤔

Will there possibly be a greatest team peaks in the future? Love all your work btw!

Ben Taylor

I would love to do GOAT teams. It wouldn't be my next historical project but it's on my list.

I love the focus on all-time greats who had massive defensive value (defensive #1's) but were offensive hybrids better utilized as #2 options or 1B options on offense. This framework of expanding the notion of #1 options to account for offensive and defensive impact gives much better tools to evaluate overall player impact. I love this. So excited to see the KG episode!!!!!!

Robinson is the only player who I believe would be widely considered as the GOAT if he had a #1 option by his side. If he had Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili to carry the offensive load next to him, he wins 5 titles easily by scoring 23 PPG, 15 Reb, 5 AST, and DPOY defense.
