Summary: Duchess of Soissu is bored at a ball and watches the other nobles. Her interest is piqued when she sees the Duke of Imperia, the richest and most powerful, non-Royal in the country. She’s surprised as he’s known for being shy and for hating parties. She quickly realizes that he’s heading towards the Countess of Somershire looking very nervous. She watches as the Duke tries to talk to the Countess, only to be very harshly brushed off, leaving the Duke, heartbroken, to run off as the Countess and her friends laugh. Duchess, disgusted and seeing an opportunity (both for wealth and because she likes how cute the Duke is), goes after the Duke, finds him crying in the gardens. He’s mortified at being caught, but she quickly reassures him then begins seducing him, eventually winning his courtship.
