This is the second monthly animation tip/feature, and the first one exclusive for patrons.

Blinkers are the most common and simpler way to give life to characters. In many 2d games the character portraits have a 2 frame blink animation. Since closed eyes are really simple to draw it´s really tempting to make a character to blink/wink, however the actual standards of high definition images require more than just 2 frames even for a so simple animation like closing and open the eyes. More frames suppose more work and some lazy animators use the 2d interpolation to save time by just squashing the open eyes layer trying to  fool the inexperienced public eye, instead of drawing new frames (inbetweeners).  I totally recommend not trying to fool the public with dirty tricks and to draw real closing eyes and not a mediocre frog-like squashing eyes.
