“All set for your first day?” Brian asked a stressed out Lauren as she waddled furiously around the house.

“NO Brian, I’m not! I can’t find my gosh darn keys!” Lauren snapped.

Gosh darn. Brian looked forward to the removal of such placid language as well as it’s enforcement at Lauren’s insistence. This latest transformation had turned her simultaneously into the bitchiest, most obnoxious woman while somehow also robbing her of her edge. She would lecture musicians for begging for money in the street while refusing to use any word more inflammatory than “strumpet”. Lauren had no problem blasting mall goths for ruining their lives with delinquency when they should be in church, but couldn’t possibly be seen without her pearl necklace and wooden sandals outside of the house. At one point, she tried to convince Brian that she needed to start carrying a flashlight and pepper spray when she would sit on the porch at night because of……”The Blacks.”

“Lauren, you’ve BEEN black. And Indian. And whatever the hell the Luscious sisters are beneath all the botox and plastic.” Brian had wanted to say, but chose to restrain himself. “In fact, you’re not even meant to be white.”

Brian had laughed at the idea of what this Lauren would do if she met herself as she was originally supposed to be, imagining his new Karen of a wife shrieking about the Taliban and running to get her pepper spray. Or just lecturing herself until her original Mediterranean self became a conservative white woman. It was a fun ride for a while to see how awful and bitchy his curvy kitten of a wife could be, but novelty had worn off and the sex was no longer making it worth it to deal with her anymore. He was ready for a change.

“BRIAN! A LITTLE HELP, PLEASE.” Lauren demanded. “I don’t know where my sunglasses are! Did you move them?!”

Rolling his eyes and grinning slightly, Brian pointed at her face. “Your sunglasses are on your head. Also why do you need them for a shift at the library? They’re not known for being too bright to see in.”

Lauren grunted in offense. “UH!! They’re for the drive over, Brian! How am I supposed to see without my sunglasses?”

“Well now you have them. I’ll visit you around lunch time to drop off food and see how you’re doing. Love you.” Brian said, smiling with the hope that when he showed up later the woman standing before him would be a little more easygoing.

“Love ya bunches!” Lauren said, wiggling her fingers at him as she slipped out of the door, her sandals clicking musically the whole way.

Hours later, Brian got into the car with a lunch bag full of specially prepared sandwiches and teas that Lauren was known to like along with a few desserts for sugar and energy. It was a simple thing that he could have done earlier and sent her off with before she’d left, but Brian wanted to both see his girl on yet another first day at work and check to see if anything had changed since she’d left that morning. Plus, making her food was something he liked doing for her. Bitchy and saccharine or otherwise, she was still the girl of his dreams and his favorite person in the world.

Walking into the library, he felt the chill on the air warning of the incoming winter. The library was, as expected, not especially bright, but it was also surprisingly empty. Each of the shelves had been neatly arranged in one section on one side of the room while the rest was filled with piles of literature and their accompanying sticky notes sticking out of the stacks. Brian walked up to the front desk and rang the old timey service bell, chuckling at the quaintness of the device. The messy book stacks, the antiquated bell, the smell of the air… It was all very library-y.

“Back here!” Lauren called from behind a door past the desk. “Come on in!”

An excited smile filled Brian’s face when he walked into the back room and found Lauren sitting down in a chair with her hands folded into her lap and wearing an outfit that was completely different from the one she’d left in. Her pristine blouse was now covered with a blue buttondown shirt with absolutely none of the buttons buttoned, relying on a single band of fabric to keep itself together as it strained against the weight of Lauren’s enormous and newly displayed breasts. Her hair too had been completely restyled and lengthened from it’s previous bob into a cute pair of blonde buns and accompanying bangs that looked fun to twirl. Brian set the bag of food down and moved to give his wife a kiss.

“Why hello the-OH!” Lauren eeped, surprised at the sudden advance.

“Hi!” She said, blushing as she looked her husband in the eyes, her own blue pools now shifting to a more grayish tone.

The two kissed again, this time as a result of Lauren sneaking back into his arms for another, slower, softer peck on the lips. Brian couldn’t help but notice how much her boobs smooshed upward against his own chest when they were that close, nor could he escape the realization of how long it had been since she’d gotten that close to him outside of the bedroom.

“I uhh….Brought you some food.” He said dumbly, smiling at his wife as she stared at him like a shy fat girl with a crush.

“Took you long enough.” She said, revealing some of that familiar cattiness now tinged with a playful, bratty pout.

Lauren said Brian could stay for her lunch break and they ended up sharing it together. It was a funny thing to Brian to notice how suspicious he’d become of tiny details. Little things like the way Lauren sat or how her pearl necklace had become a single dangling stone on a chain. He scrutinized the way she spoke, the length and color of her hair, and how much or little she was eating. Even now, he noticed, Lauren had decided to split up her lunch when normally she would have wolfed it all down and then dabbed her face with a napkin to remain respectable. Now she scoffed in amazement at how much food he’d brought, laughing at him for “trying to make her fat or something.”

There was a sort of convenient timing to the changes that kept him from seeing her directly when it happened, but it remained chaotic enough to where he couldn’t predict how soon or quickly they would take place. Some would take months like her first shift into a skinny black girl while her transformation from old woman to Indian hottie only took the better part of a weekend.

Lauren had gotten up to use the bathroom, leaving Brian to himself for a while. It was nothing special and almost passed without him thinking twice about it but while she was out of the room, Brian looked at the battery life on his phone. Before he had driven the 10 minutes it took to get to the library, his phone was at 95% charge, but when he looked again it was suddenly at 40%.... And dropping rapidly.

Something had changed again.

He jumped to his feet and nearly dashed into the main room of the library, looking for any sign of his wife on her way back from the bathroom. Instead, he found her perusing the books intently, seemingly enchanted by the spines as she ran her fingers down their covers. Her clothes had changed again too; more brown and brass than pastel blue. Her blouse had a dusty, almost brownish tinge to it and was lined with frills at the collar and shoulder. Her breasts, while just as large as they ever were, were now supported by a dark, wood-brown underbust corset that lifted them up slightly while making her waist look thinner. Assuming it actually wasn’t, he thought.

“It’s amazing.” She said, her voice subtly laced with the slightest hint of what sounded like an accent. “All this time and I’ve never even walked in here once. There’s just so much here that intrigues me and I’m stuck marveling at the fact that I didn’t already know it existed before I got hired.”

Lauren was definitely developing a light accent, Brian thought excitedly. The longer she spoke the more certain he was that she sounded more posh, praying that it’d develop into full-blown Queen’s English. Her hair was darker, her outfits sharper and more fancy.

“You know, I had my doubts at first, but I really think this place will be good for me.” She said, smiling.

“You know what?” Brian said, smiling, almost dancing in place. “I think so too.
