I take custody of the four abandoned children and head towards the Royal Castle.

Four maids were on standby at the castle's entranceway.

"We will bring them to the servant dining hall after bathing them"

Stellaria, the Chivalric Order Captain, and I went to the servant dining hall. Okaa-san and the Head Maid were contacted and showed up after a while.

"Tsukuyomi. You were saying that abandoned children were living in the forest?"

"Eeh, four girls. It seems they stayed in the storage shed used for hunting and survived by snuggling up to each other"

"So, what are you going to do with those children?"

"I cannot leave them be and let them become bear food. They are children of this country, so it would be great if we could use them as servants in this castle. If it is difficult, I will ask Otou-sama and bring them to the shrine or the Moon Palace"

"Matilda. Are there any vacancies for this castle's maids?"

"There are no vacancies, but if it is just four people, it is possible to keep and educate them"

The girls showed up in maid outfits after a while. The meal comes next after the bath is over. That said, because they probably haven't eaten anything decent for a while, it'll be bread and soup at first.

"Everybody, how was the bath?"

"Yes. It was the first time I went into one. It felt good!"

"I became clean and refreshed"

"Alright, after bathing comes the meal. Eat your fill"

"Waーh! It's bread! There's soup too!"

"Is it alright to eat them?"

The girls were stuffing their cheeks and eating engrossedly in bliss. I ended up tearing up for some reason at the sight of that.

Okaa-san noticed my tears and held my hand.

Dessert was served when the meal was finished. It was nothing particularly extravagant though; it was a cake topped with cream. The girls were opening their eyes widely in surprise.

As one would expect, for the cake, it looks like they're savouring it one mouthful at a time instead of stuffing their cheeks.

All four of them cleaned the plate of the meals that were served. Everybody was smiling with a cream moustache around their mouth.

While treating them to some tea after they finished eating the cake, I finally kicked off the conversation.

"Everybody, first, may I ask your name and age?"

"Yes. I am Mimosa, 10 years old"

"I am Primula, 9 years old"

"Ivy, 7 years old"

"I'm Amy, 5 years old"

Aah, everybody, comes off as 2 to 3 years younger. They're emaciated and obviously malnourished. They sure did well to get through this cold winter.

"Do all of you, only have names? Is there nobody with a surname?"

"Surname? No idea"

Everybody is apparently either a commoner, or they were abandoned when they were so young that they don't know their surname.

"Thanks. Mimosa, Primula, Ivy, Amy. If you girls are fine with it, will you stay and work in this castle? If you do that, the four of you can be together, and you can eat and sleep in warm beds every day. What do you think?"

"Will I be able to have this dress?"

"Aah, that's already Ivy's clothes"

"Really! I'm so happy!"

"I can eat every day?"

"Of course. Amy. You can eat until you're filled"

"Yaaーy!"

"Mimosa, Primula. If it's you girls, maybe you would understand what it means to work here?"

"Yes. Are we really allowed to work in the castle?"

"Un. My Okaa-sama will ask the King-sama and make it so that you girls can work here"

I only knew of this world's Moon City and Nemophila Kingdom's Royal Castle. And today, I learned that this world is quite a harsh world.

The next morning, I headed to Mimosa and others' room right after waking up.

"Everybody, good morning! Did you sleep well?"

They'd already finished changing their clothes. I'm relieved that there are two bunk beds in that room, and the four of them can sleep together.

"Yes. God-sama. We managed to sleep well because our stomachs were filled"

"It was my first time sleeping in such a warm room"

"Is it already mealtime?"

"I see; I'm glad to hear that. We're going to feed the horses before breakfast. Let's go and take a look together, shall we"

I brought Mimosa and others and headed to the stable first.

"First, let's introduce this one here. He's Kohaku, a wolf"

I asked Kohaku not to intimidate them with Telepathy.

"A wolf? Is it safe?"

"Kohaku is smart, so he can converse with me. He's a very good boy"

"Hmーm. How cute"

"His white fur is pretty!"

Kohaku approaches Mimosa and others, sniffs their scent, and licks their hand one by one.

"So cute!"

Amy ended up hugging Kohaku. Her face is being licked all over. He comes off as nothing but a dog when he's like this.

"Everybody, I'm glad that you're not scared. Alright, let's feed the horses breakfast then, shall we"

Okaa-san and I, as well as Alberia, gave them water and fodder. After that, we also went to the barn and gave Ar water and fodder as well. Amy, the youngest of the four, looked like she was having the most fun.

We went to the servant dining hall after that. Matilda the Head Maid showed up this morning as well.

"Alright, everybody, let's have breakfast, shall we. I'll have it here too"

"Is Tsukuyomi-sama going to eat here?"

"Un. Mimosa and others aren't accustomed yet after all, and there are also things I want to talk about"

"Understood. I will prepare it right away"

The servant meal is a slightly tough bread and soup with root vegetables and tomato.

"Yes. I went to town and received leftovers and vegetable scraps from the food stores. I also picked and ate fruits and edible grasses in the forest"

"It must've been tough huh. Mimosa played everybody's Okaa-san huh?"

"Yes. That's why I want everybody to eat more delicious things"

"How about working at this dining hall in that case?"

"Yes! I want to work here"

"Matilda. What do you think?"

"Yes. As you wish"

"What does Primula like?"

"Yes. I like flowers. That's why I liked living in the forest. I hated the winter though"

"Aah, is that so. How about we try going to the garden after we finish eating then? There's the job of taking care of the garden's flowers as well, you know"

"Ah! I, would like that!"

"What does Ivy like?"

"I like dresses. This dress is cute as well"

"Ooh. I see; how about the job of making and altering clothes then?"

"Yes. I want to do it!"

"What about Amy?"

"I like animals! I want to look after the horses"

"Aah, I see. Amy is still small, but maybe it's possible if you do it bit by bit"

"Yes. I will do my best!"

"Matilda. Will it work out somehow?"

"Yes. Tsukuyomi-sama"

"But, everybody, you can't start working right away"

"Why? I, can work!"

"Mimosa. I get that you're motivated. But you girls have an illness called 'malnutrition' because you haven't consumed any decent meals for a long time. If you don't first eat plenty, sleep properly, and condition your body, you'll end up collapsing if you start work suddenly, you know"

"Un. That's why you'll spend another two weeks at ease. You can play with Kohaku and the horses and look at the flowers in the garden. Got it?"

I led them around the garden after the meal. The autumn flowers hadn't bloomed yet, but Primula's face was gleaming. I introduced Primula to the gardener. And then, we went to the stable, talked to Alberia about Amy, and all of us spent our time playing with Kohaku.

We went to where the Chivalric Order are after lunch. Yesterday, I put off the canal's matter halfway through because there's Mimosa and others' matter.

"Chivalric Order Captain, Stellaria. Good afternoon!"

"Aah, Tsukuyomi-sama"

"Because there was Mimosa and others' matter yesterday, I ended up leaving the canal's matter be after that"

"Eeh, I heard the story from Stellaria. I was told that you lifted the entire canal's ice and flung it"

There wasn't any problem with the canal. We carried on and arrived at the lake. The lake's outlet towards the canal is frozen, and water only trickles through. It's a state where a thin layer of ice still remains on the lake's surface.

"What should we do; it's troublesome to rip off all of the ice on the lake's surface. If I'm able to melt just this part of the canal and get it flowing once, maybe this part won't freeze anymore"

I melted just the ice around the canal by blasting fire. The water started flowing vigorously towards the canal when I did.

The two of us walk the lake shore alone.

"I encountered Kohaku when I rode Sonia with Okaa-sama and came here"
