The Story of A Certain Soldier (3)

"......I sure wonder what this is about huh, Captain"

"Like I know. But, for the enemies that came attacking that much on the first day to pull back so readily, there's probably something. Don't let your guard down, alright? Like those nobles"

Today marks a week since the war started. In front of our eyes were the figures of the dead spirits that hadn't the intensity of the initial battle.

It's not like we've reduced their numbers, but because they don't come attacking as aggressively as they did on the first day, the nobles are letting their guard down quite a bit. Furthermore, the Holy Kingdom being on standby at the back is probably also one of the reasons the nobles are up their own ass.

If the Holy Kingdom comes out to the front, all the commanding rights will be taken by the Holy Kingdom. They probably want to score some achievements by themselves before it comes to that.

"However, you wouldn't expect any less for having declared war on the Holy Kingdom huh. They are taking us on like this much difference in military strength is nothing after all"

Aide-de-camp, Gain, commends in dread the Demise Country's warring capabilities of this entire week. Well, we're having a hard time because of that though.

Right from the very first day, they made grotesque creatures that neither sleep nor rest launch their attacks, turned the soldiers into zombies through some method, and killed the Healers. On top of that, if our side gets done in, the deceased soldiers turn into dead spirits like them, and even if you kill the dead spirits, the corpses gather and change into different dead spirits. You can't get any more annoying for an opponent in war. After all, the enemies don't decrease.

Even if we bring along Magicians who specialise in Fire Magic and Light Magic, weaknesses of dead spirits, they naturally have a countermeasure; whenever we cast magic, a black mist-like thing ends up blocking the magic.

It's not like other magic doesn't work, but because their effect is little compared to Fire and Light, we're unable to cast it much and end up clashing in the end. This, too, is probably going according to the other side's strategy.

Rather than an exchange of magic, clashing is able to reduce the numbers of our side, and the other side is able to increase their numbers after all.

"They probably have something else hidden up their sleeves as well. It seems Angels intervened in the Empire's internal strife according to the rumours, but I hear they were defeated. I heard that the Demise Country had a hand in that as well after all. They probably have the power to be able to take on Angels at the very least"

"Hyuu〜, as expected of Captain, you sure are detailed huh"

"You idiot, why don't you know the internal affairs of a large country. The internal strife alone is a big deal, but there are all kinds of things like a Dragon appearing and the Angels being in the Empire, you know?"

"I did hear bits and pieces of that at least, but I honestly thought it had nothing to do with me, and it ended up going in one ear and out the other"

Gain says and laughs. I could do nothing but to facepalm. No matter how uninterested you may be, it's the internal strife of a large country that ranks at the top even on the continent. There's quite a bit of influence even on our country that's a little ways away. I would like you to have at least a bit of interest.

As I was thinking about such things, the frontlines started making a ruckus. Everybody was looking at a single point. We turned and looked to the front as well, and a golden-haired woman in armour dyed entirely in black was standing over there.

Her appearance is quite the beauty, and she comes off as an enemy, but there were also those among the soldiers who were mesmerised by her. However, I was breaking into a cold sweat at the pressure I could feel from that woman. There were those in other countries who noticed as well, and they were calling for them to be on guard.

"Ladies and gentlemen of the combined troops. My name is Liscia・Einstein. One of the dead spirits who was resurrected by Master, the ruler of our country. I am thinking of holding a sideshow from here on out. The great person of any country, anybody is fine. Have a one-on-one battle with me"

The woman suddenly introduces herself and starts saying something like that. A sideshow or whatnot all of a sudden......why? I don't know the reason, but I don't have the leisure to think about it either; one of the countries that were in a hurry for an accomplishment sent their troops at the woman who introduced herself as Liscia. I guess they number about 200.

Despite about 200 soldiers approaching, Liscia・Einstein is composed. And then

"Fools. First Sword・Greatsword of Gale(Sword One・Galnadof)!"

7 swords shined and appeared at the back of Liscia・Einstein, and she grabbed and swung a dark-green greatsword. Just that alone. Just that alone blew a whole 200 soldiers away.

And then, seeing that figure, I remember a book of the Holy Kingdom I saw in the past. The story of the treacherous Captain of the Paladins. If I'm not wrong, I believe the Captain of the Paladins who came up in that story also utilised 7 swords.

Her entire clan should have been executed for instigating an insurrection against the Holy Kingdom though......no, I guess it's clear if you look at this dead spirit army. The person herself had said it as well after all. However, how much power does the King of this Demise Country possess?

"Now then, who's coming?"

It was a mesmerising smile, but we couldn't stop breaking out in cold sweat.
