Surpass

Hazen takes roughly a few hours of sleep and returns to the Taboo Mansion. For these three months, he spent almost his entire day in the laboratory. The approaches in the experiment of Dark and Light are different for the most part. He'd spent a bit of time in the same room as Asch for the sake of providing him with knowledge, but they're now conducting research in different rooms.

Hazen carried on down the basement's spiral stairs and entered the room conducting the research on Dark Magic.

"Haa......eat your meals properly at least"

While saying that, on top of the table, he places a week's worth of food supply. Hazen, when his concentration runs out, he goes outside for a change of pace, but Asch, besides going to the toilet, is cooped up in the laboratory entirely. Since both their age and personality are different, he doesn't intervene for the most part, but as expected, it's a lifestyle that's gone to the extent that he can't overlook it.

"......"

"Oi, Asch!"

"......aah, Hazen-sensei. How is it? Your side"

He notices that existence for the first time and turns around.

"Not well. Your side?"

"I understood the cause of the God Guided Disease itself"

"Re-, really?"

"Eeh......in essence, the shape factor of this part. Those who possess this from birth, will contract the God Guided Disease sooner or later. You can maybe even put it in another way and say that their lifespan had been decided ahead of time"

Asch explains while gouging the corpse's brain.

"......I see, which means a death sentence despite one's birth huh"

"If we can alter this shape factor......however, not any kind of magic has worked as of now. I would like to have you test it out with Light Magic as well, but I think the results will likely be the same"

"Aah......"

He understands what Asch is trying to say. Healing Magic's main premise of  is regeneration. Even if you regenerate something that one comes with from birth, you can even go as far as to say that it's completely meaningless.

"However, even knowing that alone is progress. Good work"

They identified the cause of the disease that they couldn't grasp even the slightest hint until now. Just this alone is undoubtedly on the level of the Continent Magic Association MVP Award. That, in merely 3 months. He once again can't help but be impressed by Asch's talent.

"No......it is still, nothing......in my eyes, the impression is that it has got even further"

"Leaving that aside......how about you rest for a bit? Even my daughter......even Liana, probably wishes to meet you after all"

"......"

"Besides, that letter......it's you, right? I knew right away from the handwriting. It's quite, an interestingーー"More importantly, Hazen-sensei. The matter previously, have you thought about it?"

"......aah. I'll leave it here. You can use it as you like"

He says and places the paper on top of the table. Hazen has connections with merchants all over the continent. Periodically sending corpses to this place is also one of their many jobs. For the sake of procuring what Asch wants, he arranged it so that he could get in contact with them.

"Thank you"

"Still......what are you getting? Over here, there should be every ingredient you need to a certain extent though......"

"Aah......if, Sensei can do it, I would like to make a request"

"Of course. What do you need?"

"Are you able to procure living humans?"

"......huh?"

He'd heard his words.

However, he doesn't comprehend them.

"Please don't make me say it again. Living humans. Are you able to procure patients who contracted the God Guided Disease?"

"You......what are you saying? Like hell I can!"

Hazen had instinctively gotten agitated and grabbed his collar. However, Asch shows no fear, and his dazzling eyes don't crumble.

"Why?"

"'Why', you say......Asch, do you think life can be sold with money? No, it can't. Life is not something that can be transacted......do you not even understand something like that?"

No, in the first place, something like dissecting living humans is beyond Hazen's comprehension. That, had obviously surpassed the morality of him, who ransacked even corpses, by far.

"......aah, is that so......I guess so. I just wanted to try asking"

While muttering softly by himself, Asch starts ransacking the corpse's organs again. And then, in contrast to those words, his jet-black eyes, were emitting an uncanny glint.

Hazen was silently staring, at that picture.
