An Embarrassed Expression That Can Be Told Even When Drunk

On the following day after we disembarked onto this Spuhreel Continent, I was shown around this Lake Town by Setsuna. 

"This is, Lake Town's status quo"

The number of people living here is, exactly as she said, about 1○○○ people.

Men and women of all ages, all kinds of people are residing here; in Fezelis Continent, where I was, a population of this many people is roughly bigger than a town but smaller than a Kingdom. 

If this number of people resides in the Nameless Kingdom, it'll establish as a Kingdom. 

But, I can't say that this location is a comfortable place to live in.

The location that Setsuna is staying at, is a castle that's in the heart of this Lake Townーーover here, it's called a Palace.

I'm also borrowing a room the very well-kept and spacious Palace, but I somehow understood the reason that she was saying that this Lake Town is a temporary residence.

"There are no decent houses here huh"

"We do not know when somebody will come attacking. Hence, we are only able to live in tents that we are able to immediately fold up and move, in this sort of a manner"

The Palace is decently constructed, but the others are living in tents that build and fold easily.

It's neither spacious or large; there's probably just barely space for 2 people to reside.

In the vicinity of the vast lake, numerous of such tents have been pitched.

And then, I was shown around Lake Town by Setsuna after that as well.

What's common between Fezelis Continent, where we were, and Spuhreel Continent, is only the fact that there are monsters.

But those monsters too, are so few that one can't tell if they exist, and it seems there are no frenzied monsters or whatnot.

So, there are neither Adventurers who are making a living off of subjugating those monsters, nor people who are possessing the Divine Stone, that becomes power.

It's not like we're on friendly terms so it's a given, but I couldn't believe it.

But, in this Shupreel Continent, there's an existence scarier than monsters.

It's the fellow humans.

In the status quo, where the fights between humans are regularly occurring, they may possibly be more of a nuisance than monsters.

Most monsters are similar to will-less battle machines; most of them will charge and attack if they see humansーーbut, humans use their heads.

I know it's a nuisance because I too have fought against humans numerous times before, and I've also seen a surfeit of the ugliness of humans, numerous times in the past, so I understand.

That's why in this Lake Town, they're learning the art of fighting every day for the sake of fighting against those who reside in the same continent.

"......What's that?"

"Nn, that is our art of fighting's martial arts. Have thou heard nothing from Fiーchan?"

"Er, not particularly......you don't use weapons?"

"It is because weapons have limits as well; they are training as such so that even the weaponless can fight. Shall we take a slightly closer look?"

I was told by Setsuna, and I move closer to those, who I suppose is doing that training.

Immediately after that, there are young children, all the way to old folks, who seemingly have a fair bit of difficulty even standing, over there.

Even such them, quickly bowed when they saw Setsuna.

"Thank you for the hard work, this person is our guest. Do get along with him"

I was introduced, but it seems I'm not quite welcomed.

It's because I'm tall and overbearing, not, it feels like they're being cautious because I'm an outsider.

And those, who were training, dispersed to their training once again.

"Sorry, Egil-han"

Setsuna, who looks at me, apologised apologetically.

"I think everybody is just being cautious. It has been years since someone like a guest came, those who come here have only been those who try to kill us, so I suppose they are afraid"

"No, it's okay. It's something natural for this continent, where the disputes between humans occur again and again"

"In actuality, I want everybody to become able to get along with anyone. However, year by year, the hatred towards people outside of their comrades is growing"

"Have they, been living such lives the whole time?"

Setsuna, who hangs her head sorrowfully.

Her clear black hair has been done up, but several strands of loose hair dance in the wind.

"It's a world that we don't know of huh, this place......"

"Indeed, we also do not know what kind of place is the continent that Egil-han was. Hey, will thou tell me some stories of the continent Egil-han was?"

"My continent?"

"It seems like a world that I do not know of, so I am interested"

"If you're fine with my stories, sure"

When I answered that, Setsuna smiled happily.

As I thought, the gazes were harsh even in the midst of returning to the Palace.

I feel that which is similar to killing intent, but Setsuna, who walks beside me, is walking with an undisturbed expression, without feeling anything, as though she's repelling it with those traditional clothes.

In a spacious space, a tatami-covered floor, and a draughty door.

Fiー, who sits beside me, squints more than usual and looks at Setsuna.

"......As usual, Setsuna is fond of looking after people huh"

"I wonder is that so, it is normal, you know?"

"......Egil, it's better to say it if it's becoming smothering, you know? If you don't say it, Setsuna's fondness of looking after people won't stop"

"Geez, Fiーchan is mean huh. Ah, Egil-han, can you drink alcohol? Do you like alcohol?"

When I answered as such, it clearly felt like Setsuna's expression brightened up.

A sigh, albeit light, is audible from Fiー.

I wonder if I said something bad?

As I was thinking of that, Setsuna stood up,

"Wait a while"

said, and headed somewhere.

"......Setsuna likes alcohol. However, she's a lightweight and a bad drunk, so nobody tries to drink with her"

"Is, that so?"

"......I'll leave the clean-up after she gets dead drunk to you. It's none of my business"

I was abandoned by Fiー.

Setsuna, who returned, then places the alcohol that she carried in both hands before me while smiling.

"I really am glad, that Egil-han came. I do not know why, but everybody, they desperately stop me when I try to drink alcohol"

"......It's because you're a bad drunk, isn't it"

"Nn? Fiーchan, did you say something?"

"......Not particularly. I'll return to the room already. I, can't drink alcohol after all"

"Eehー, a little bit is fine, right? Hey, Fiーchan"

Fiー quickly disappeared, perhaps because she's aware that Setsuna is a bad drunk.

Setsuna, who makes a sorrowful-looking expression, then looked at me,

"Well then, let's enjoy with the two of us?"

said that, and the banquet, that I have a bad feeling, began.

15 minutes later.

As for why; it's because a drunk Setsuna is beside me.

I tell her that and stand up, but she, who can't even walk properly,

throws a tantrum like a child.

So, I carry her,

"Here, I'll send you all the way to your room"

Setsuna, whose height is roughly 16〇, but is rather light.

When I lift her up, Setsuna mutters.

And on the way towards the room, we had a conversation that we came around to precisely because she's drunk.

It's a firm, strong, and serious gaze, so much so that I can't tell whether she's drunk or not. And then she's putting a bit of strength in her hands, that were wrapped around my neck.

"If Egil-han stays by my side, and becomes my partner, I will be delighted. This heavy cross......that nobody will take up for me, that was left to me by the previous generations, even just half is fine, if only you will shoulder it for me"

"......If it can end up like that, then it'll be great"

"My evaluation is strict, so resolve yourself, alright?"

There's no bed in the Palace.

There is only a futon that's laid out on the tatami.

I lowered Setsuna there and, Setsuna, who separated from me, smiled sweetly.

"Howbeit, not leaving yourself to your lust and assaulting me, is a high evaluation. A man who has sex with anybody, is not to my liking"
