I wanted to get Sword and Shield for my wife and I for Christmas, but was turned sour by the facts presented by the #Dexit and #Gamefreaklied controversies.

In fact: I refused to buy it because it appears to be a nasty trend akin to series like Call of Duty or how studios like Bioware have started treating their customers.

Am I wrong and should I reconsider?

Let me know your thoughts! (This will definitely influence Pokemon Trails.)

It's a new take on the story, and the gym challenges legit feel like the Olympics. Downside is some favorite pokémon aren't featured and instead new forms of pokémon for the specific region. Still, even with those, this game is a lot of fun. I do recommend it.

The story is the shortest of the pokemon games I've played. It is fun. The challenges at the gyms I found too too easy, only 2 were challenging. I'd say if she has a favorite pokemon see if it is able to be played in this game 1st especially if she has ones she wants to transfer over. If she the type to enjoy raising new pokemon, interact with them while camping, cooking them food, and in general just likes the series I'd say pick it up. If she is looking for more stuff then we got in the last too games then she maybe upset cause while you can interact and play with your pokemon in the camping function it is less then we've had in other games. For a console game I'm shocked on how little of improvements are in it and not sure why the cap on pokemon and moves was put in other then balancing issues. But again it is still a pokemon game so there is still fun to be had.

Personally, I'm going to wait for the "sharp sword / sturdy shield" versions you can almost guarantee are coming. I also recommend not buying because the game currently has a lot of issues like the raid exploit and the like.

If you are die hard fans you should definitely buy them. There's plenty of good stuff like the extremely memorable gym leaders and battles with them and all the clean looking new pokemon and galarian forms but on the other hand dexit seems like a huge drawback and step down for the franchise. You will be able to get over this negative fact after a while though, should you decide to enjoy this new adventure!

As someone who has played since Red and Blue came out when I was a kid, the National Dex axe was hard to swallow. That said, my girlfriend and I picked the games up and loved them - despite all of the negativity surrounding them prior to release, the games are a lot of fun. The Wild Area alone is addicting - Max Raid battles are fun with friends and the Gym Battles are absolutely as epic.
