I absolutely loved Margaret Weis and Laura and Tracy Hickman’s novels, so I had huge expectations towards the adventure from WOTC. I also got some requests from you for some maps for this adventure, so it was inevitable to take on this job. These locations are quite generic and thus can be used for any story really so DMs not planning to buy or tell the Shadow of the Dragon Queen can also make good use of them.

Those wondering what those flames on the edges of the maps are for, should note how a new interesting solution has been invented to help conduct epic battles and are labeled as “Fray in the adventure book.

The 15-foot-wide area marked by the flames at the edge of the map represents dozens of clashing combatants. A creature that enters the Fray for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there must succeed on a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw or take 7 (2d6) slashing damage from opportunistic foes.

In addition to this, several other kinds of events can occur, which are to be determined with a dice roll. f.e. “Two terrified, riderless warhorses bolt from the Fray. “

Chaotic Good Patrons are getting the “No Fray” version of the maps too,  these locations can very well work in other scenarios, as well.

Unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to run SOTDQ yet, but the sections I read look truly promising so far. Let me know how you feel about the adventure. By the way, I don’t intend to go exclusively with adventures, since it would prove to be a daunting task to cover everything from the book, plus I don’t think it’s for everybody either. So don’t keep your fingers crossed for every single map, but there are quite a few excellent dungeons in there to work on. I might turn one or two of them into maps, and if nothing else I’ll make variations to them that look available in other stories too.

I hope you like these and please be prepared because the dungeon and dark throneroom dedicated to the necro brothers are to be released tomorrow alongside the adventure module too of course, which ended up purely awesome if you ask me.

Awesome! Your maps never disappoint, they are all beautiful. That fray effect would great if we could have it as a weather template, so we could use it in any map. Thank you for your amazing work.

More SotDQ stuff indeed, my group are finishing chapter 5 of the adventure. This is a hard one but very interesting campaign and so easy to run, the book is definitely one of the most convenient and well written from wotc, imo.

Would love a map for the Raided Catacomb- with purple cataclysmic fire animated in each room. +100 points if they tell the story of Soth. Would be amazing.
