Today a desert, but once a wealthy land. Even though the realm has never been too fertile, if it has a strong ruler and a steady state the lands can grow rich, too. However, a firm and solid-state must stand on many grounds, and thus a powerful monarch needs some supernatural support, as well. This way the temple itself is an audience hall to a god.  

The temple sits in the valley of an old river that dried out aeons ago. Its walls had been carved out from the rock itself. After entering this sacred site, the devout masses could show their piety taking three possible paths:  

To the left, now on collapsed stairs the small shrines and cells had once been posing as likeness to the temple. Greatness of the church had been on display here. Sacrifices were offered in the alcoves, with friars living in solitary confinement behind the larger ones for atonement for their believed sins. The stairs represented a common man’s journey to fulfilment in life. Of course sometimes these stairs go down, as the midst of the hall is no home for glory, either. Had this been a place for bodies to be tossed? Or did they just die tumbling down by accident?  

The room on the right represents how secular power turns divine. The faithful formed groups here on their own following their hearts’ and sometimes their masters’ desires. They bowed in unison before the powers commanding their world. Peasants, warriors, clerks, and clergy showed their respects the same way other nobles did - they all understood hierarchy.  

Those going straight will see the true face of the god.
