UPDATE 12.31.2020: Find the newest version here: https://dynamicdungeons.com/editor_player/

Version 3.3. as a free upgrade is here and available now to download from the shared folder.

If you've lost the original download URL, find the "check for updates" button under the Editor's INFO menu and reach the installation folder from there, or contact me on dynamicdungeons@gmail.com and I'll resend you the download link.
If you haven't already purchased the software, TRY or BUY IT NOW

What's new in 3.3.?

- performance improvements
- horizontal (Ctrl/Cmd + H) and vertical (Ctrl/Cmd + V) flip for background videos and images
- background and prop search bars
- actual story title is shown in Editor
- audio props autoplay on load switch
- reworked installation process on Windows (installed to the Program Files folder)
- various convenience features and bug fixes.

Another major free update is coming in a few weeks. We'll say goodbye to Manager, you'll be able to edit and manage everything with Editor. Also, cool enhancement features will be implemented to adjust the colors and appearance of the props and videos. Custom splash screen for the Player window, multiple prop import, multi-prop selection, buttons instead of hotkeys, and much more will be introduced in the upcoming version.

Before the installation, please read through the known issues!

Download and unzip the archive file and run the installer (on Windows), install all three applications on Mac. (It’s recommended to choose the main disk as a destination.)

Known issues

  • Default assets download failure: We experienced random slow-downs during downloading or decompressing the default asset packs. If downloading or decompressing of a default pack stops, hit Retry, it will do the trick. You can redownload the assets under Config/Media. You can also get the files from here. If you want the assets to be visible in Editor's own browser, copy the assets to: userfolder/DynamicDungeons/editor (the backgrounds should be copied under the "backgrounds" subfolder, props and particle effects go to the "props" subfolder.) Of course, you can drag and drop assets into Editor from anywhere.
  • Too many assets in the resources folder can cause a memory overflow and ruin the thumbnail generation process. We'll fix it with the so-called UI virtualization which will be introduced in 3.3. If you have difficulties with the thumbnail generation, keep less content in the resources folder, use drag and drop from an external folder instead of the internal browser.
  • Huge story matrix is still can be resource-demanding, and overloads your PC.
  • Mac: Editor, Player or Manager application is missing after installation: If you had a previous version of the app on your computer, it might have been overwritten with the new file and remained there. Search for the missing app (editor_dot_app or manager_dot_app or player_dot_app) and move it to the Applications folder or to Applications/DynamicDungeons folder if it exists. All three applications have to be in the same directory, but it doesn't matter where is this directory on your computer, you can even move them manually, but remember to keep them at the same place.
  • Editor window is not resizable: We decided to temporarily remove the title bar of Editor to preserve the exact 16:9 aspect ratio, and get the exact same playback on Player, so you won't be able to resize the editor window now. At first, it may seem uncomfortable but unfortunately, it was necessary for normal operation at this phase. It's not set to be always on top, so the Windows button will normally bring up the start menu, the WIN + D key will diminish the app. On a Mac, F11 or Fn + F11, or Cmd + H does the same. Cmd / Alt + TAB switchers also work of course to bring your other apps to front.
  • Windows app scaling:  If custom sizing percent was set for "Resize text, apps and other items" in Windows, 100% and 200% worked, but on 175% the app made a wrong .dd file, and Manager remained gray.  On higher percentage, the manager window may open out of the screen barely visible. In this case, you should decrease app scaling. If you have problems because of app scaling, use the same app resize percent for the primary and secondary display or lower the resolution or disable app scaling.
  • Video props: Using video props are still in an experimental phase, a limited number of videos can be dropped or imported to the scene now in "add" blending mode. It's a deliberate operation and will be useful when weather or various effects will be introduced later on.
  • 5k resolutions are not supported, use "lower" resolution settings.
Study the HELP doc where you can read more details and find function keys and shortcuts.

Can't find how to add props?

  • Find the props folder starting from INFO in Editor. Click and open it!
  • Copy props (.png, .jpg, .animation, .particle) files into this folder (by default your props folder's location is: youruserfolder/DynamicDungeons/Editor/props)
  • Restart Editor
  • Drag a background into a story position, click on it enter the scene editor window (gear icon)
  • Click on the torch icon, your props should be there, and the thumbnails are being processed, it may take minutes while thumbnails are generated, depending on how many props were copied there (You only need to wait for it once, not on every startup)
  • Once the thumbnails appear, you are ready to drag them into the scene.

If you haven't already purchased the software, BUY IT NOW (Saving is disabled, Manager and Player are not available in the demo version.)

3.2.2.

 - Help tooltips appear when the user moves the mouse pointer over an element

- Scene title and notes

- State thumbnails for the scenes. (After returning to the story matrix, you'll see a refreshed thumbnail of the scene.)

- Take a screenshot button in the upper right corner of the scene editor. (It's a cool feature for building a background then freeze it and apply grid over the props.)

- Thumbnails for .animations in the browser and in the hierarchy panel

- imported or dragged props are automatically copied into the props/user folder

- seamless looping of videos in the scene editor, green bottom line bug fixed

- Hitting 'Esc' in scene and image editor now brings back to the story matrix view instead of exiting the application

3.2.1.

Grid is finally preserving it's scaling if the story is played back in different resolutions

- the first scene in the story will be set automatically as the starting point

- moving a scene within the story matrix from a position to another will bring the props too

- default appearance and initial shadow of props can be set in the config menu for Editor and Manager.

- "Play this story" and "Move window" buttons in Editor: You don't need to save and close and start the Manager anymore, but you can directly launch the story when you saved it.

To preserve the position of props we could not let the title bar of the window come back, so a dragger was added instead.  Double click on it or anywhere on the Editor window will set the window's position to the default.

- 90° clockwise / counterclockwise rotation hotkeys were added to the prop panel (will come handy when I release the modular dungeon elements)

- Save story: By hitting Cmd / Ctrl + S in the Manager will store the current state of your story remembering the fog of war settings and the position of the props of every scene.

- .jpg props now are supported in the Scene Editor

- Improved entity handling, reused texture data from the GPU: let us add more props and animations to a scene using fewer GPU resources.

- special characters in the notes section of props no longer cause trouble, circle brush and grid masking works, and other various bugs were fixed

3.1.

  • 1. Tree style vertical browser which supports subfolders
  • 2. Config menu A new menu point is available in Editor, called "Config". Under the first tab, which is the settings panel for Editor, besides some obvious settings, you can find the so-called "prop scale factor" line. Start experimenting with this to find the best scale for the imported or dropped props. It determines the initial scale (size) of a prop dropped to the scene. You'll find which scale setting fits best with your setup. Under the Manager tab, you can set the default level of transparency of the fog of war layer.

  • 3. Prop panels: Instead of long-press, the prop panel now appears by clicking on a prop or by selecting it from the new hierarchy list.
  • 4. Reworked Browser: (Torch icon on the left) Reach the content of the prop folder. (username/DynamicDungeons/prop by default) Now it supports subfolders, thanks to the new tree view.
  • 5. Traditional browser: (folder icon on the left) It lets you import images, .animation, .particle, mp3 and video files. (Video props are projected with "add" blending mode which will come handy for weather effects in later versions, and it's still in an experimental phase.) Drag and drop still work, of course.
  • 6. Local / Global props: Local props appear only in the current scene. Global props, on the other hand, will appear in every scene of your story.
  • 7. Prop hierarchy panels: On the right, hierarchy panels are available, one for local props and one for global props (token icons on the left). You can select the props of the scene and group them, or adjust their position by dragging and moving a prop up or down in the hierarchy.
  • 8. Sound props: Import an audio file using the browser, or simply drag and drop an mp3 to the scene. You can trigger the sound, or play it looped, set the volume and panning.
  • 9. Default grid size: Once you set grid size, it will be saved as the default grid size (we are still working on the algorithm which will project the same size grids on the editor and player, even if they have different resolutions. Now it still needs to be adjusted manually, but it'll be solved in 3.2. such as we solved the different prop size issues in this release.)
  • Bug fixes Issues with the thumbnail generation are solved. The props now maintain their size and position.

What's new in Manager?

  • Shift + C covers the entire scene with FOW
  • Ctrl /Cmd + 1-6 set the size of the manager window

So it won't work with 3.0? I thought you had said that between major versions things would continue to work? Sigh . . . I can live with it.

Bakunyuu44

Hi! The editor doesn't load the thumbnail when I drag a video in. It remains white and I can't understand where the videos are in the map. EDIT: I noticed that only a few thumbnails doesn't load, maybe I have to wait a little.

Anonymous

You're my favourite :) Another great update with some fantastic features. My one request is some way to auto-number tokens. If I drop 10 of the same goblin into a scene, adding a little "1", "2", etc... to the corner/bottom would make managing enemies a lot easier. I did it manually but now I have So. Many. Tokens.

dynamicdungeons

Great idea! or maybe small colored tags what we could specify and could be numbers or words like “fat” or “scarface”, etc.

dynamicdungeons

Wanna try how video props work with "add" blending mode? here you can get two sample video props that you can drop to the scene: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1aT8SICDSIARKH_mXDHmueT9KtANlR8nD?usp=sharing I’ll use this feature for full screen weather effects.

Anonymous

It's been a while since I've had a chance to play. Is there an animated prop that would signify where a voice is coming from? That would be cool to combine with audio files to have sounds or speach bits coming from a certain direction or object.

dynamicdungeons

Sound files can be dropped to the scene and triggered or you can play them looped. The animation itself doesn't contain sound.

Anonymous

Man I really really really want to try this version but I have a campaign running from 2.1 and nearly every map has custom placed props. It took me such a long time just to make a duplicate version of the larger world map so I could have a night time variant that I just can't see myself upgrading any time soon. Do you think there will ever be the possibility of some kind of save file converter from 2.0 to 3.0?

Anonymous

Is there a way to have v3.0 & v3.12 installed side by side? Every time I install if there is another version in place, it just installs on top, instead of allowing me to install to a different location.

Anonymous

I figured it out! This may work well for you too Fel. Download the new installer, then open a command window and change directory to where you downloaded the file. Then run it like this: dynamicdungeons_312.exe /dir=c:\DynamicDungeions3.12 I just used the root of c: b/c it's less typing, but you could place it anywhere. This allows you to have 2 different versions running.

Anonymous

The OSX package is not installing the 'player'... but it seems to work with if I copy the 3.0 player to the 3.1.2 folder....

Anonymous

Our group is using a touchframe around the TV screen, making it effectively a 40" touchscreen ( very cool!) and in the v2 of the player it was possible to move the props/tokens (and unfortunately the grid) around on the 'player' screen, in version 3.x this was not possible any more( probably a feature not a bug... :) Can this 'feature' also become a toggle in the config menu?

dynamicdungeons

It could be switched back. The problem is that between the manager and the player there is a one way communication now. So even if we let the props move on Player, they would not not be moved on the manager, so this is something what we should rework. Btw, that frame sounds interesting and I saw something like this on youtube and seems to me much more cheaper solution than a touch screen. If there is a relatively cheap way like this, than it worths to develop the app this way. Could you please give us some details, or show your setup in action? Or a URL to the product you chose. Does it support multitouch?

dynamicdungeons

I wrote about this issue in the post. If you can’t find the file in the new folder it doesn’t mean that it wasn’t installed, but probably the installer found another version of the player.app somewhere else and overwrote it at that place. You can check the date of modification of the files and keep the newest app, or simply copy it to the new folder. Manager only will be able to launch Player if they’re in the same place.

Hi, the Mask properties section on the editor no longer seems to be working well. it seems that mostly when using the circle masking tool that the grid is not removed, while the square seems to work more often though not always. Liking the experimental mp4 props though!

Jesper

First DD, thank you for keeping making awesome maps, and making the player better. Im a happy patreon! But I have 2 issues. The same as with every new version. you need to fix the compatability, or make sure it works for next versions. It is unbearable, when I put 100 hours of map making into the player, and not have it work with updates. - And please dont tell me to run 2 seperate installed versions, because that hast to grow to 3 versions now, and its already a bloody mess, to keep the 2 old ones seperate. - I do understand and appreciate, that you would solve this if you could. But please dont make any more updates until you figure it out. Now I have 1 other big issue, and that is actually the main reason, that I hate using your player. - I love it, but i hate using it in the building process - because its insanely slow. - I have a pretty new, ok beefy laptop, but every map takes like a minute to drag in. I guess, it is because it copy pastes every map piece we use, for every map we build. - I have no clue with coding, but there must be an easier way?? - Or just find some solution for the map building, copy pasting faster. Seriously, I have many maps I need to build, but it is torture to work in the program. Can you please try and optimize something? I have not tried the new version, and will not use it because of the lack of compatability with my 20+ old maps. - so if the speed is better in the new, I might have to start all over again. - I love making adventures, and using the maps, but the way it works, the fun goes away, and it feels like boring work.

Anonymous

I totally agree with the compatibility issue. I have invested A LOT of hours in a campaign I am doing in your editor. I have to say that i really like it, but now I don't know what to do. I can't redo everything to use the new editor, and so, I will have to keep making adventures in the old version. Unfortunately, if there's no compatibility, new versions are useless

Anonymous

Thanks - looking forward to 3.2 and the tools/props to make more custom versions (I'm finding I need to make a lot of 'joiner' maps to link between others). In the interim, Is there a way to change the orientation of a map? (e.g. mirroring or flipping?).

Anonymous

So yesterday I downloaded the Editor no problem. Today I decided to work on it, and now I can't open it....says my Adobe Air isn't updated although it is. I'm frustrated, I finally got all my scenes ready and can't even open the program anymore. Help?

Anonymous

I started making a new story after updating to the latest version. However, now I am unable to load the story. A warning pops up that says "The story is made with . Current version is 3.1.2." Please help!

dynamicdungeons

Can you please send me the .dd file from the project, and also the latest dated log file from Your editor/log folder? dynamicdungeons@gmail.com

Hi there, can you tell me what system requirements the new player need? I got two iMacs one with osX 10.12.6 (macOS Sierra) and one with 10.14.6 (macOS Mojave). On the newer one (my "business Mac") the new version is running. But on the older one (my "roleplaying mac") the player is alway crashing since Version 3.0 and no playing is possible anymore. Unfortunately the mac is too old to make a systemupdate to mojave. Any clue what I should do?

Anonymous

Always nice to continually get new maps and love that the dungeon software continually is getting updated. Since I've slowly been getting into using this over the past several months. I'd LOVE to get some basic "player condition" rings to use digitally on the screen. Poisoned, paralyzed, charmed, etc. Just tossing that out there if you're ever bored or suffering from creators block one month.

Anonymous

I have an issue where i'll upload a number of maps to the editor, save, and then load it up via manager/player. The issue i'm encountering prevents me from being able to scroll to the next map in the sequence. I have to close everything out and reload it and select the new map everytime my group moves into the next room. Anyone else encounter this?

Anonymous

Any chance you can address the window size problem on 21:9 monitors? It appears that the program window automatically sizes for the horizontal resolution and assumes it's a 16:9 monitor so it becomes too large to fit the top and bottom of the window.

Anonymous

I have to say I'm very excited about the direction you're taking this software. I will definitely stick around. However I didn't see anything in the notes about adding support for using more than 2 monitors. I currently have an issue (have not tried in 3.1.2) where I need the player window to display on a 3rd or 4th monitor rather than simply the 2nd monitor and it does not work very well at all. Is there any hope for me in either v3.1.2 or perhaps in 3.2?

Anonymous

I'm looking for more props like spiral stairs one ladders. do you have them?

Anonymous

I also am curious about additional monitor support. I'm not sure about what sort of changes would be involved, but I think it would be a great feature to have!

Anonymous

I'm sure you're already working on plans for more Particle Effects. could we get something along these lines this, but in Particle effect mode? http://arcknight.squarespace.com/shop/spell-effects-5e-wizard

Has anyone had problems in window 10? I install it but it doesn't work. When I open the "editor" I get a black screen with a "Context3D not available" error.

dynamicdungeons

I’m still investigating this issue, and I’m not sure about it, but it seems to be an Nvidia - Adobe issue, not a Windows related problem.

Anonymous

Ran into a problem where i just get the d20 loading screen trying to go from one room to the next.

dynamicdungeons

Please fill out the bug report form, and send me the .dd file and the latest dated log files of the manager and the player to dynamicdungeons@gmail.com

Anonymous

Also have some problems here. The player window dont go fullscreen, it take only a part of the screen. Go back to 3.0.0 for now.

dynamicdungeons

That’s strange, if I could get your latest dated log files that would help. Send them please to dynamicdungeons@gmail.com , and a photo or screenshot showing the problem also could help.

Player.exe crashes and wont start automatically when Manager is launched. In Editor if i set the Player to open on screen 1 it will open. when i send it to screen 2. it crashes

I have managed to get everything working just fine on my Surface except for when I load the props to the prop file like the rocks and plants. When I put those in the prop folder and then open the Editor there is nothing on the left hand side to select, not maps, props or particles. Just blank on the left side. As soon as I remove the props from the prop file everything works just fine. I can even leave the particles and video props experimental in the prop file and the editor loads right up and I can even use the video props and particles. The moment I load the actual props to the prop file then the editor comes loads, but everything is blank. Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Anonymous

Would it be possible to get a fog prop/animation file? I'm running Curse of Strahd, and overlaying a simple fog over the daytime maps would be great. There may be one already, but I couldn't find it in the backlog.

BrotherHanan

@Nicholas Oliver - When you run into that problem, try dragging a map's file onto the grid. It should appear, and then all your other files should load. I had the exact same problem and couldn't figure it out.

Anonymous

I have discovered how to make it work just not sure about a long term fix. When I put the props in the prop folder and start the editor it loads with nothing on the left side for maps to choose from. So then I close the editor since cant load any maps at that point. Then I go to the prop folder and remove the Props I have put in there, but leave the Particles and Experimental Video stuff. I start the editor again and everything works fine. The editor loads with my maps to choose from on the left side and then I can create a new story and use the particles on the maps. So this tells me there is something wrong with my props. I compare all of my props to each other to make sure they is nothing wrong with them. They all look fine, so I start adding them one at a time and start the editor after each one I load. This works great and they are all there to use. Then once I have all of my props in the prop folder I close the editor and reopen it to see if they are all still going to work and no maps load on the left side to choose from. After a few more hours of testing different theories. I have come to the conclusion it has something to do with the Thumbnails. If I change the name of just one prop in the props folder before I start the editor then everything comes up fine and it creates a new thumbnail for the item I have just renamed. I don’t even have to remove any of the props from the prop folder, just rename one of them and everything loads in the editor. I know that sounds weird but I have done it 5 times today and ended up with the same result.

vmeb

This is a cool concept, but the lack of Linux support is disappointing as heck. I can't even get it running in WINE.

Anonymous

I had it running in Wine but it was glitchy. Adobe AIR likely at the root of that

Anonymous

Does anyone have a good resource for animated assets (Tokens, Tiles, etc) or is that something that will eventually be provided as part of the pack?

dynamicdungeons

I'll release thematic modular packs soon in various styles that will contain a lot of props and animations. Also will open the .animation file format to the public, so you'll be able to turn gifs and png sequences into .animations.

Jeremiah Sells

Are there any tutorial videos for this? I'm interested, but I'm afraid I'd be lost without some instruction.

Anonymous

So if we already purchased an early version (1.x) do we have to buy again to get the latest version? My version does not have an upgrade option in the menu and I have not heard back when I've emailed about getting the latest download link.

Anonymous

"The newest update is available now to download from the shared folder and it's free for anyone who has purchased any previous version." You can find the installer by going to Google Drive and searching for "Dynamic Dungeons" or opening the "Shared with Me" folder.

Anonymous

There are a few on DD's Youtube page (link below), but the best way is to just play around with it for a while. I was intimidated at first too, but it's actually fairly straightforward and simple. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaiH6M0BgtupcNcDisrJySw/videos

I'm having issues loading my setup, when I try it hangs at "Building Entity cache"

Anonymous

Great work so far, I'm really loving it. The only minor issue (which I've worked around for now, so it's not a deal-breaker by any stretch) is one that I wonder if it has an easy fix. When I open the Manager/Player, things are looking good, but if I move any windows from one screen to the other, the manager windows (command list and story bar) go totally white. Okay, so don't move it from one screen to the other and just write down the commands, right? But if I want to resize the Manager window from super tiny using CTRL+2 (or another number) it makes it bigger and moves it back to the other screen...which means that it all goes white on me.

dynamicdungeons

Thanks for the feedback. Try different resolutions for your primary display, because that affects the initial size of the manager window. Double click anywhere on the editor window will reset it's position, but probably won't fix the white window.

Anonymous

EDIT 2- After trying to duplicate the problem a couple times, I agree with @Nicholas Oliver above. It seems to have something to do with the thumbnails. My temporary fix is to delete all Thumbnails folders. After reloading the Editor and letting it regenerate the Thumbnail folders (you can watch it re-create them in Windows), the maps are visible on the left side of the menu again. Subsequent reloading of the Editor program won't load the maps. EDIT- Scratch the below, I guess. I let it sit for a while, and it finally populated. I'm still not convinced it's solved, though because I've let it sit for hours before with no change. Will monitor. With this latest update, I'm having a problem similar to one above where I open the Editor, and there is nothing on the left side. Funny thing is, after installing, I moved all my maps to the appropriate folder, and it worked fine the next time I opened it. Every time I've opened the Editor since though, there's nothing there.

Anonymous

The editor is becoming more and more awesome, thank you for the amazing work! I have a question about the audio props; is it possible to hide the audio icon in the player screen? I want to be able to switch audio on the DM side, but my players should not be disturbed by having those icons on their maps. I did not see an option to hide them in the editor or manager screen. Is it possible? Thanks!

Anonymous

Really struggling with the new editor. When I open it, it only shows a black screen with no top bar and maximized. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and no improvement

Anonymous

nevermind, fixed my own issue. Was a graphics driver thing.

Anonymous

Excelent version! I love it, really. Amazing work, what can I say. Unvaluable resource for GMing

Anonymous

New purchaser and DM here! It's being great so far but, as many others, the default assets are not being downloaded on first editor load. I've downloaded both assets and props using the link provided in this post, and copied them to the user/DD folder; but I'm unable to unzip the particles packages as they're encripted. Is this password available somewhere? Editor is not recognizing the zip packages, so I suppose particles must be unzipped first before being placed in the props folder.

Denny Wright

I'm trying to store my maps on OneDrive, so my maps are not in the default C;//Users//DynamicDungeons. When I switch to my DynamicDungeons directory on OneDrive, the new version wants an empty directory so I can't just reuse that folder. I've had to move maps or rename folders which confuses Windows while it's syncing OneDrive. Can you allow future versions to reuse the folder from the previous version? Also, it doesn't open stories from previous versions. Is that expected? Is there a workaround or do I need to remake the stories?

Anonymous

Has anyone experienced a black screen every minute or so when playing a story from the editor? Seems to be a looping issue. Is there a work around?

Anonymous

Will the editor ever work on an iPad is my question!

Water is Life

I have version 1.1.0 There is no check for updates under info.

Anonymous

I have couple questions... I’m having issues on play back. The video of the map plays back at very low frame rate but the particles play normal. I’ve resorted back to just making a play list of the videos and playing on vlc but would much rather be able to use the story player but the frame rate is so jarring. Also is there any way to save a scene that I added props to as just a video to play in vlc

Andrea Russo

I've this isssue: while playing and moving from a scene to another by arrow keys, unexpectedly all the FOW settings disappear revealing the entire scene to the players

Anonymous

When I try to unzip the Particles it ask my for a password! I'm not able to unzip the firewall, lightning and all the other particles in this zip folder.

So I just downloaded and updated and now I am stuck when trying to load into my editor and story with the follow "Building Entity Cache System" I have a ton of hours in this story what is the deal? So for the time being I have uninstalled and installed to the older 3.0 version because it works.... I also saw that someone else above had the same issue but you never responded to answer how to resolve the issue so.. I looks cool but just does not work as intended. 3rd edit.. So I cannot find anywhere that you mention maps from 3.0 would not work in 3.2.1 but that seems to be the issue. Only maps created in 3.0 wont open. If I make a new story it will open and work. I am sure I read that you mentioned that future updates for 3.x.x would all work with old maps. Has this changed? If so that is fine but would like to know. Because it is cool you are doing all this work but for those of us that have created story maps that take weeks for players to progress through updates are pretty useless since i have to plan new story while running old story I just have to keep using old version. Good work.. but making it compatible within same 3.x.x would make this great. I still support you and your work and what you are doing. This is a bummer on compatibility though.

Having issues with props not being in the same locations between Editor/manager and the player. They show correct in editor and manager, but are incorrect in the Player view

Anonymous

i have this exact same issue. I've had to resort to using an older version of the 3in1 system. its fine, but the older versions are pretty lacking in the asset editing department.

Sentinel Phoenix

This "Building Entity Cache System" glitch has wasted hours of my work and nearly ruined a session. At no point was it clear what caused it and how I could fix it. The program just stopped loading the manager and player and no amount of removing stuff made a difference. This is awful.

DUDE!!!! 3.2.2 changelog is literally a list of all my biggest frustrations with the editor (most of which were fairly minor anyways). I've been working around them by building the modular dungeons in photoshop using your modular props, and then importing that as a background, and then placing animated props and moving them from there. Excellent work!! Looking forward to busting this out during my one-shot tomorrow! Keep up your amazing-ness.

That memory overflow issue is unfortunate, I use a large number of maps and props and they just don't load in on the side bar. I think I have to go back to 2.x for the time being instead of reducing the assets in my resource folder, however 3.2 is very promising.

Sorry for repeating what I wrote in the tutorial section. I am on a MAC can't see the wheel icon to edit the pane. I suspect, the menu has been resized in such a way that the the remove button hides the icon. Maybe it is due to the scaling changes you did ???

I have an issue where if I make a note on a prop, and I then interact with the manager window, the notes turn into random characters.

dynamicdungeons

An update is coming in a few days to fix this issue. Yes, you can increase the resolution or set your Mac to "more space" and all buttons of the panel will be visible.

Im having a problem when I import an .mp4 video (a non DD video). The video will not show, and just shows a white image with the "image" logo. I cant seem to figure out how to get these videos to work.

dynamicdungeons

Mp4 format is supported, so I'll be able to answer your question if I could examine the video file. Can you please share it with me by email or dropbox or google drive? dynamicdungeons@gmail.com

Downloaded the update and now I can no longer get it to save any work I do. It says the files are saved and the date on the file is today but when I load it, it is still just the same empty dungeon started several days ago. Wasted well over an hour before I realized what was going on. Need fix now.

dynamicdungeons

Are you trying to load a saved game state or the package.dd file? Are you on Mac or Win? Please share the project with me via google drive or dropbox, please. dynamicdungeons@gmail.com

Anonymous

I found a work around. I just save the file under another name each time. Up to Manticore Lair 9 at this point.

Anonymous

I was loading the packaged.dd file like i normally do on Win. It worked for just fine till I did the update, then it stopped working.

Am I the only one experiencing severe lag on the program after just a few minutes on having it open?

Anonymous

wtf, when I loaded up the editor, it removed the resources folder!!! I lost over 1200 maps.

dynamicdungeons

I'm sorry to hear that Adam, but launching Editor does not delete or remove anything. Which version is it? If you already had a resource folder, it was renamed to "backgrounds" and all the asset should be there. If you had no resources folder, the new install or launching won't delete the existing content. If you are moving the resources folder, it wipes out the directory where you're moving to, there is a warning message about it. If you guys want to simply change the resources folder without the moving process, find the actual config file under Document/dynamicdungeons and manually change the directory there, so the app will look for your assets in this directory, without starting the moving process.

dynamicdungeons

Are you on Win or Mac? Did you experience in Editor or during playback? Could you please send me the latest dated log file of Editor, Manager and Player? Find them in the working folder, in the log subdirectory. A fresh log file when you experienced this lag would be helpful. dynamicdungeons@gmail.com

So I just got on 3.2.301. I created a new 5x5 story. Whenever I drag a background/map onto the story matrix, there is a lag before it is placed, then the entire tree on the left side colapses back, requiring me to re open each subfolder to get back to the maps I want to add. good example is the ice cave. Put those 6 maps into the following folder structure background -> Caves -> IceCaves. Load up the editor, drill down to ice caves, drag one over, the whole tree collapses and i have to redrill down.

Eric Layton

Unfortunately, 3.2.301 is not working for me. The thumbnails do not load in the editor or manager. The Manager gives an error: "Warning [Event type="error" bubbles=false]. I've had to move back to 3.1.2 for best performance. Running MacBook Pro, MacOS 10.15.4.

Is there any way we can remove the need for an empty folder for the "Move the current working folder"? Just curious why it can't just use the prior installation's settings and be done with it. It looks like this causes a few people angst each time. All my maps are stored on NAS box and it never remembers my settings, or renames it to backgrounds etc. I'll edit the config file from now on, if I'm sure doing so won't wipe everything.

Anonymous

Backed up 112GB of resources, edited the config.json file, fired up the editor. No resources appearing and the default location for resources still shows. Went back to the config.json file and it had been changed back to the default location. Grrrrrr!!!!

Is this a 64-bit application? I've recently upgraded to Mac OSX Catalina and 32-bit applications no longer function. Thank you!

Anonymous

Is this all free for patrons? The new versions. I have been a patron for a couple years now but have not been active. Looking to get everything updated downloaded and start using again.

Anonymous

I can't get the fog of war to work. The screen is black on the player, but when I clear it on the manager it doesn't clear on the player. This is when I run it on my windows PC.

My maps finally populate on the left side since this latest update but now I have a new issue: The program runs excruciatingly slow, to the point where working on large map projects is simply unrealistic. CPU usage isn't that high in task manager and only 2.5 gb of RAM on average so I'm not sure why it's doing this. It's extremely evident when editing props on an animated map, the map plays at between 5 to 10 fps. In previous versions, namely 2.x, everything ran smooth as butter. My specs: Windows 10 64 bit Ryzen 3 2200G GTX 1050 Ti 16 GB of RAM And I'm not complaining as I know this is no easy task to optimize across multiple OS's, just trying to help with feedback. Thank you so much for everything you've done, you really have changed the way my players and I experience D&D! <3

Omair Quraishi

Once I edit a map, can I export it as a mp4 file? I'm using Foundry VTT and using Amazaon's S3 web-storage services and using some of the pre-made maps as backgrounds for Foundry VTT.

I’d be happy to buy this but have no idea how to use it. Could someone post more YouTube videos explaining how it works and how to build maps and use it in game?

Anonymous

I think he has a video to explain it. But it’s not too bad to figure it out. I may wait for the new version because it will probably be simpler since there’s only two programs not three.

Anonymous

Thank you! I’m excited for the next large update. The past couple versions have been freezing on me when I change scenes while the player screen is on an external display.

dynamicdungeons

Have you seen this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wch3mz5Nl5E&feature=youtu.be (Some changes were made since this tutorial was released, but it's still useful to understand the main features.)

dynamicdungeons

It worths a try with the current version to see if the problem persists. We still have three programs for the time being but you only need to deal with Editor. It automatically launches Manager and Player. Editor and Manager will be merged in the upcoming version and there'll be buttons for everything instead of hotkeys.

Anonymous

Would there be any chances you cooperate with Foundry VTT to combine your editor with them? That would be so rad!

Anonymous

Thank you for continuing to make this a better and better program. I'm particularly excited to hear that the manager is being folded into the editor in an upcoming release! That's fantastic

Jesper

Can anyone confirm if the 3.3 runs better now? I skipped the last, and am running the previous to that.

Anonymous

I bought this a couple of iterations ago. Upgrades are free, correct?

Is there anyway to increase or decrease the size of the story size? I.e. move from 4X4 to 6X6 etc. or vice versa. Part way through building a story it sucks if you miss judge the number of blocks you need. Also, when in player, is their anyway to "save" the state of the map? I've used it for a few sessions and it works well, but we didn't finish an entire map in that time, so next session I needed to rembember which monsters were killed, which rooms explored, etc.

Anonymous

did you find an answer to this question im intrested my self

Anonymous

No unfortunately not. I believe it is an unavailable feature. Hopefully it's something that can be added in a future revision.

How do we get help. I rather program on an older computer and it worked but was choppy and froze from time to time. I bought a new computer and editor works great but when I try to play my story the manager comes on, followed by the player briefly then it disappeared and the only thing I can do with manager is task manager to kill it. When I unplug the TV I can make it run but that won't help much. Is there a setting I'm missing? I have e-mailed and bug reported but I'm not getting a response. Anyone have any tips?

Fog of war is broken for me on Windows using version 3.3. If I have a multi-tile map FOW works fine on the first time I use it on, but if I move to a different map time the screen is just black and doesn't reveal, even after I've revealed it in the manager which makes the app completely useless to me. My players can't play if they can't see the map.

Anonymous

So on my newer computer there is troubleshoot compatibility button that fixed most of my issues. I also had to turn the resolution down outta 4k. Last thing I did and it seems to work is running the manager with my graphics card vs my integrated card. My manager window auto opens on my players screen now which is annoying. I don't know why it defaults to that.

Anonymous

I use Foundry as well and I do a "record screen" then edit into a loop inside of any free video editor like Open Shot or Resolve

Anonymous

Tried running the latest version had multiple issues with Lag and lock ups (Perceived or real) and Fog of war issues. Ended up uninstalling and reloading teh previoues everything worked fine there.
