Hey Dynamic Dungeon Editor users,

The update is live now on Steam and is automatically refreshed if you start it from your Steam library.

What's new?

  • Added Ruler / Measurement / Area of Effect Tool (line, square, sphere, cone)

Only active if the grid is enabled (of course it works even if the grid is fully transparent )

  • Added background rotation feature (a long-awaited feature, find it on the background panel)

  • Prop visibility feedback for the DM (If the prop is invisible, a small crossed-out eye appears on it)

  • Right click hover menu in the Library to set the asset as Background or Overlay (weather effect)

  • Grid masking tool - now you can remove the grid anywhere on the background
If you activate the grid mode, you can draw with the mouse to mask out areas. Scrolling the mouse changes the size of the masking brush. Hold Shift to redraw.

  • Added "ESC" (exit application pop-up) in the Welcome screen and the Story View screen

  • Fast Scene selector window size increased

  • Webms start from a random frame (so animated tokens do not move at the same time)

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed Fog of War rectangle reveal tool becomes invisible if we zoom in/out

  • Dragging background with right-click in Fog of War mode

  • Full-screen mode does not jump back to windowed mode

Performance improvements

Performance has been improved in several ways, but we still have to live with the nature of this particular kind of gaming, where we play two 4k videos simultaneously and it is demanding computing resources. So again, I would like to point out that the program requires a dedicated video card, as stated in the Steam software requirements. (Also works well with Apple M1 processors) The Editor loads all the content added to the library into memory, due to the nature of the Unity framework. Video files are large, and many videos quickly consume the memory available for rendering, slowing down the program and increasing the load time.

If you don't have enough memory, load only the video files you need for the story. If you don't even download the DLC, it significantly increases performance and reduces memory usage. To do this, go to Dynamic Dungeons Editor on Steam, and click the little cog icon (Manage). Under Properties / DLC uncheck the Default Assets. Restart the app. (You can still load the library items you need for the story by downloading the default assets DLC separately from here: Dynamic Dungeons Default Assets) The next update will give you the choice of what you want to download from the DLC.

Known issues:

  • VP9-coded webms are still not supported (because Unity does not support it, but there is a quick and free solution anyway to convert your VP9 webm files to VP8, using Shutter Encoder. Read more about it here )

You can report a bug here: BUG REPORT

Thank you for supporting Dynamic Dungeons!

Keep it up, there’s nothing out there quite like this app and I need it for my games! I’ve used it for every session since it launched!

Glad this update has come through, you recently helped me with an error and the BETA version (whilst slower to load) had solved it! I’m curious as to the best way to get WebM animation enemies like you have in your example there? I use tokens for enemies but would love to expand the immersion with little animated goblins slapping my players!

I have not used for awhile, this looks cool, I installed fresh but the button is grayed out. Am I doing something wrong?

I left a message on discord but figured I would leave one here as well, the Fast Scene Selector's size should go back to what it was or be able to be changed without having to mess with the U.I. size. I have a file with a lot of maps for a big session and the update made the quick select un-usable unless the U.I. was set to 0.50 scale. Amazing work on everything else! love the measuring tool!

I agree. This change has basically broken the program for me for any mapset I have built that is > 5 tiles in a column.
