Welcome to the film room!

By: Caitlin Cooper I @C2_Cooper

To kick-off the start of the regular season, I decided to kick-off this month's mailbag by inviting you into my film room. While answering the technical questions, you can join me as I discuss specific clips, going inside actions you can be on the lookout for from the Pacers this season, as well as diving into the fit of certain player combinations. Of course, no mailbag would be complete without also including the patron-only popsicle content. So, after taking a closer look at the Xs and Os, my sister and I also took to the open road in what turned out to be quite the odyssey in search of frozen treats as I finished responding to the rest of your inquiries. Enjoy the (chaotic) journey!

In case you just want to the listen for your specific question or jump ahead to the shenanigans, here are the relevant timestamps:

28:34 - Adding a former Pacers player to the current roster, no All-Stars

31:19 - What excites me most about the start of a new season

33:27 - Who will be the first player to play themselves into or out of the starting lineup?

36:27 - The popsicle odyssey takes a surprising turn!

39:25 - The starters as Outshine flavors

43:56 - How do I determine what aspects of the team/game to write about?

So excited to watch this! A dive into the inner workings of Caitlin's mind should be neat. I may have to check the transcript of the video since I'm giving a standardized test and can't exactly watch it yet...

Great listen as always. Thanks for answering & for your insights. I mistakenly thought Obi was out there, but one example of the play I was thinking of was at 3:20 to go in the 3rd against Atlanta. Breakaway transition and TJ runs to guard the man Walker already picked up and then stood in the paint during the ball movement to a corner three where Walker's match up hits the 3. I could've sworn there was 1 more with Toppin out there as well because I was at the game on that baseline & I remember Toppin saying something to McConnell & TJ got a little testy, but my quick review wasn't able to find it. Just flagging so you can see what I was speaking to. Again, huge fan of your work & thanks for taking the time to dive in on my ask!

Especially like the game film aspect of this - should be a staple moving forward. Proud of your stick-to-it-ness to finish the entire box of popsicles!

Ended up passing a good portion of the 5 hour standardized testing I was giving by watching this on mute with closed captioning. Worked like a dream.

The first clip is a bit iffy. When Walker takes ball at the wing, TJM is technically the first player back in transition. Generally speaking, it's that player's responsibility to defend the basket until the big can bump them out to the perimeter. That exchange has some lag between TJM and Jalen Smith, but that's why he ran to that spot.

I don't disagree with you. Something to watch this season is all I'm saying.

Thank you for sharing with us your observations and ideas. Whether they are broader concepts or more finely detailed items, your insight brings an additional level of appreciation and enjoyment to the game and my Pacers fandom. Also, loved the film room and happy your employee still got their treat lol. Seems like a lot of restaurants and places to visit are closed on Mondays!

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback on the film room aspect. I thought this was a good way to experiment to see if that's something you guys would like moving forward. And yes, I didn't anticipate that so many things would be closed in Fort Wayne on a Monday. Bummer! We still had a good time, though!
