Drawing/ Painting Process, Thoughts about color mixing and revisiting old pieces, there's even a little ASMR in here. This video has it all I think.

This video is about revisiting some old drawings, I do a walkthrough of how I developed the drawing from the older work and transferred the final drawing to a panel.

I do a little technical talk about direct painting, some thoughts about color mixing, the "value/temperature mindset," the importance of mixing colors and not using them right out of the tube, and getting lost in a painting.

Then I go on to talk about getting lost in life, I reflect on where I was in life when I made the original drawings, rather than judge myself I tried to get in to my own head from back then and stick up for myself, which leads to a pretty good rant that involves the Donner party, And I talk about grotesque art and my thoughts on representing the sickness of life in my work.

Happy March 3rd Everybody

Last night I went to an opening at Copro Gallery. They were showing this artist, Ed Binkley. He does unreal work with colored pencils.

What really blew me away was how some of his pieces depicted monsters and some depicted beautiful women and he was able to make the monsters look creepy and grotesque and the women beautiful using the same techniques for both.

Everyone was blown away by the work and it was like watching people try and figure out how a magic trick was done. But that makes it sound like it was just a technical gimmick. The design and feeling are what drew everyone in. Then the techniques he used to get there were just another layer of intrigue once the image pulled you in.

I had a great professor in film school who critiqued my work by using a sandwich as a metaphor. He said, "think of your work like a sandwich. right now you have some sauce. And it's a delicious sauce. But you need a bun. And some meat. Some Cheese, some onions, some veggies before you have a sandwich I'd want to eat."

Ed Binkley served a delicious sandwich at Copro Gallery last night.

This has been my art critic column. Thank you for reading.

Here's some pictures of his work from the show.

Have Fun
