I have all these painting studies that I did last year that I'm going to start developing. I'm doing sketchbook sessions based on this painting:

I'm starting this one because the idea is strong, the colors are strong, and it's already a pretty decent painting.

When I was taking reference photos with my friend Jazmin for the cave painting I had her sit in the pose for this painting. She held a helmet instead of a mask.

I just wanted to get reference for proportions and how the hands actually look when they're holding something like this, lighting, all that stuff.

That stuff's pretty straight forward (even though the hands in those sketches are pretty rough.)

I quickly realized I need to figure out this mask thing.

It was a mask initially in my mind. But maybe it's not a mask. maybe it's a real head or something else. I'm still looking at a lot of masks for reference and doing more sketches of them.

I drew some masks from references out of a book I have called "Fantastic and Mythological Creatures."

I won't be doing direct copies of them on the finished piece but sketching them directly is good practice to get ideas.

Anyways. Once I started getting to work on developing this painting idea I realized I'm probably not going to do it justice if I try and squeeze it in for the prompt deadline. So I'm either going to try and do something else for the prompt or try to get a comprehensive sketch of the painting done for the prompt.

Happy January 19th Everybody

I'm not getting very good sleep lately.

My back hurts.

I don't want to go to work.

It's supposed to rain this weekend, but I need to varnish the Cave. So I hope it doesn't rain too much.

I just want to play guitar. I'm learning Gnossienne No. 1 by Erik Satie.

Tonight I'm going to Sculpey night at the hive. I'm going to try and pick up some sculpting tips.

Have Fun,

Goodnight Sweeties
