Dreaming of the Language of the Muses (Patreon)

I had a great conversation about my recent sculpture adventures with Chet Zar. He was a sculptor in the make up FX industry for 20 years. He attributes that experience to his painting skills. It totally makes sense. 20 years of being surrounded by skulls and anatomy references and skin textures with a demand to make everything look realistic. He's the guy to talk sculpture with. He gave me all sorts of great advice.

Chet's the one who told me "use reference" over and over.

Even though I knew I needed to do it. I was reluctant. I don't wanna learn all this crap.

Then I had this dream: 

Me and Chet were going to some kind of fancy event. He looked sharp. wearing a suit. 

In the parking garage there were these three beautiful women. They invited me over to them. I went over and tried to talk to them. But they spoke in this crazy language that I couldn't understand.  

Then Chet came up and started talking to them in their crazy language.

I interpreted the beautiful women as being the muses. The reason why Chet could talk to them is because he knew their language. They wanted to talk to me and I to them. But I have to learn their language. That language is sculpture. 

Here's the reference I made of this drawing. I drew it from a slightly different angle. I think this was the first one where I used the box to control the lighting.  I filmed the process of this one and I'll be making a video of it eventually. 

Happy December 14th Everybody

I'm about to go to work. We're painting a Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer today.

I'm running late as I type this. Even though I remembered something I wanted to say earlier, I can't remember it now because I have to get dressed, eat lunch and leave. I also have to pee really bad.

There's a piece of cardboard on my floor from the packaging of a sanding block I bought. For some reason my cat loves to play with this particular piece of cardboard, so I leave it on the floor for her.

I read this passage in the Mark Kozelek book the other night, I think you guys may like it. It was inspirational to me.

Oh yeah I remember. It was a meme I wanted to share. I don't have it on my computer where I'm typing this though so I'll try and remember to share it in the next one of these daily things.

I might go Christmas shopping after work. 

Gotta go pee now.
