You guys killed this one. So many different styles and mediums! I love that.
I call mine "Crossroads Joe." I'll be doing a process video about the piece. But the basic idea was to do a medieval/early renaissance style dragon but make it American. The way that they would come up with dragons and fantastic beasts was by combining different animal features. A lion mixed with a snake mixed with an eagle for example. So I did that but I used animals that live in the American southwest in the desert. Coyote, different types of lizards and of course a bat. It sounds super lame and "artsy" but through the course of the process of painting ol' Crossroads I felt these different animals represented different parts of me. More on that in the video though.
For now:
Here's your submissions!!
I'm including people's instagrams so be sure to follow each other on social media and all that stuff.
Brenda's unicorn on toned paper I absolutely Love the color and how it pops of the page. Also look at that great shape design. I want to ride on its back through the mists of Avalon.
Tia killed it again with a 3D piece. She actually combined the last Found Object prompt with this prompt. This started out as a very happy looking doll. I love Venus fly traps. and after mine died recently I can't help but feel like this is her reencarnated.
Katrin uses a lot of the texture techniques that I'm a fan of. She found interesting fantastic beasts in there. I like how she defines them just enough to communicate what she sees, but keeps the abstract quality of the textures and processes.
Huyen did this one with bic pen!
Jeremy did this Beaver/Angler Fish Sewer Wretch with pen and ink.
Jazmin did a wood block print for hers!
Sheena Did a Collage!
