Every year around this time I get burnt out. Then I get depressed. So last year I decided I'd take a little staycation around this time.

I threw a dart at a map (sort of) I typed in "motels," clicked randomly and made a reservation.

I love motels, but they are very lonely places. And I really resonated with David Whyte's "Alone"

“To be alone for any length of time is to shed an outer skin. The body is inhabited in a different way when we are alone than when we are with others. Alone, we live in our bodies as a question rather than a statement.

So this little trip kind of became about that idea for me. Living as a question rather than a statement.

I took some watercolor and drawing supplies and I ended up sketching a few things I was pretty excited about. I painted a lot of bad paintings of flowers, I did a few sweeties, some automatic paintings, one painting of a weird garden that I was "psyched out of my mind about" as the writer from Elf says.

Then my hard drive got corrupted and I lost the videos of all that. But I still had some of the footage on memory cards. So I was able to edit together some of the footage into a video for you sweeties.

I recomend doing a little staycation if you can! I had to plan mine like a year in advance because, well, money. But I think it was worth it. Changing your environment can be a very powerful boost to your creative mojo in my opinion. And I'm speaking as someone who hates going anywhere.

I really like the vibe of this vid. Feels like I'm journeying through a lawless country, and then a little joke falls in my lap.

Yes!! exactly the vibe I was going for. Since I couldn't use a lot of the material I tried to just build atmosphere.

I love the idea of a "staycation" to reset and recharge. I haven't had a staycation, or even a vacation for that matter, in a couple years. Guess I'm due!!🤷‍♀️ I really enjoyed this video!! 🖤 It gave me the vibe of "Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas", but without the psychedelic escapades and fear of legal repercussions. LOL! Thanks for letting us hitchhike on your staycation journey & sharing some laughs along the way! (not gonna lie, I burst out laughing when you were making a "Psycho" reference and then said "I had a shower.") 😂 "Rest & Corrupting in CA" would be a fitting title I think? (your poor hard drive.... I really hope you can rescue what is trapped and revived what is lost... 🤞🥺)

That would be a great title! There may have been psychedelic escapades and fear of legal repercussions on that lost hard drive footage for all you know lol.
