It’s probably pretty cliche to describe the Great Shift as weird or life changing, and I’m sure many people’s lives were changed drastically that day. However, I still put myself out there as a rather extreme example.

It wasn’t the fact that I was now a woman -- having your gender switched by the Shift was a fairly common thing -- it was that I suddenly became pregnant. It was the first thing I noticed when the Shift happened. My hands reached for my new belly instinctively. I could feel it aggressively move about inside of me. I didn’t know if that was because it could tell there was something wrong with its mommy, if someone’s brain was now stuck in that underdeveloped fetus, or if it was just sort of like that naturally. It was only then I began to notice the rest of my female body, and the fact that I was standing in a book store.

I eventually made my way back home where my wife was waiting -- she had swapped bodies with a man, incidentally. We discussed what to do about my pregnancy. I seemed way too far along for an abortion, so I was going to have to give birth. We hadn’t thought about starting a family, but neither my wife nor I really wanted to put the baby up for adoption. There was only one solution where we decided we wouldn’t keep it and raise it as our own, and that was if the original owner of my new body showed up. As my due date approached, I became almost fearful of her appearing out of nowhere. She never did, and I found myself in the hospital giving birth to a beautiful baby girl.
