If he was honest with himself, Curt always felt it was a really stupid family tradition. And yet, late every summer at the family reunion, every adult in the family would participate in a strange ritual body swap that would last until Thanksgiving. Every “adult” was probably technically the wrong term; it was more accurate to say “everyone over 18 years old.” That is, of course, why his mom’s dog Spike was participating this year. And, quite unfortunately, his Aunt Louise ended up in Spike’s body.

Curt squatted down to look at the elderly dog at eye level. He smiled and whispered, “I’m sorry,” but to likely no available as Louise had already fallen asleep in Spike’s body. Part of the reason he felt he needed to say something was that he was the one now in his aunt’s body.

In the five years he had participated, he had his aunt’s body once before. He had actually enjoyed that year. It was interesting being a woman, and his aunt was only three years older than he was -- it was certainly better than the time he spent as his own mother or his great uncle. He also knew the possibility of Louise dying in Spike’s body was pretty high, which would mean there would be no one to swap back into this body when Thanksgiving rolled around. His aunt’s body would technically be considered his, the one he’d spend the rest of the year inside of. He supposed if there was a family member’s body to be stuck in for most of the rest of his life, Aunt Louise’s would probably be one of the better ones.
