Chief Bogo had come to hate dealing with the Mayor's Office. First was Lionheart, with his grandstanding and performative laws and initiatives that were a lot of big talk and little practical change. Then came Bellwether, who was bigoted, absolutely insane, and nearly brought about the collapse of the city government. Now, he had to deal with the third mayor in two years— and in a shocking twist, it was one of his own officers, McHorn. Bogo could swallow his pride in one of his subordinates being his superior, and perhaps Clawhauser was rubbing off on him, because he found himself strangely optimistic. He had voted for McHorn after all, impressed with his policies.

That all evaporated when he entered the Mayor's Office, and the water buffalo was left in a state of shock. Somehow, McHorn, who had always been on the heavy side, had positively ballooned into a flabby sphere of a rhino. His jacket hung limply at his thick love handles, his buttons straining at the sheer volume of his enormous belly.

"What—"

"Chief!" McHorn chuckled. "Get a load of this, huh? Come in, come in," The rhino beckoned. Bogo's brow arched when he saw McHorn's desk— a third of it was covered in donut boxes. 

The rhino noticed Bogo's eye, then chuckled, patting his middle. "Heh, I know, I know, I'm turning into a regular Clawhauser— but hey, there's no physical for being Mayor!"

"More's the pity," Bogo muttered under his breath.

"Huh?"

The buffalo cleared his throat. "Uh— let's talk about the city."

"Right! Yes, I wanted to talk about some ideas I had for the department. You want some of these? All from Gideon's Bakery, they were a big supporter of my campaign," the rhino said, grabbing another creme-filled donut.

Bogo begrudgingly took one, a strawberry frosted. "Let's get to it, yes." He also quietly promised himself that he would never end up like McHorn…
