It's done!! It's here!!!

"Jam this is a day late"

I knowwww I'm sorry I stubbornly wanted to tone it. But I hope you enjoy it! :) I went on a road trip around the interior of BC to attend Red's wedding in Trail. I camped in my Prius and saw some neat things!

This is my big THANK YOU for everyone who is a Patron! 💜💜💜 It makes a huge difference to have you all here supporting my work. I am going to wrap up a couple of more posts here tonight (???? we'll see. Tonight tomorrow) and then restart the schedule for OCTOBER.

Ttys!!

I finally got around to reading this and it was utterly lovely. I'm from this area of the world (BC interior) or at least my family is and I visited a lot growing up... but I haven't been in years and this comic really has nostalgic vibes to me... and also makes me want to go visit again. Thanks!

Thank you for reading, Ali!! I love driving around this province, it's beauty around every bend

A Prius named "Sensei"? I prefer a friend's WV bug named "Great Haste." (He was always going somewhere in ...)

jam

Great haste!!! I would be too stressed out about speeding haha

I really enjoyed reading about your journey, and I'm glad it was ultimately a positive experience!

This is wonderful; thank you!

The advantage is that you can say that regardless of the speed you're going. (Remember, this is a VW bug we're talking about.)

I've been to Revelstoke once before, although I came from the opposite direction and had a slightly longer drive (from Boston). Spent most of that time in Banff, Yoho and Jasper. Managed to avoid motels.

A day late? What? It's lovely! I really enjoyed this. It makes me want to include a week to head east next time we come to Vancouver. Very glad you are finding time to and enjoying exploring how to shape your life. Hmm, the verb construction there is all wrong . . ..

The Interior is really beautiful, a completely different climate and scenery from the coast! But most of the places I visited are much lesser known (with the exception of Revelstoke perhaps). The heavy hitters are Kelowna/Penticton/Summerland Area (Okanagan), and then probably Golden/Lake Louise/Jasper/Banff. Those last three are in Alberta but it's a popular "extended vacation spot" when a BC trip is considered.

This was wonderful! I appreciate that you put the populations of the towns in. I recently took my first adult trip to the Interior and was surprised at how different in size places were and how different that made them feel.

I didn't realize you and your family had a falling out. That sucks. Thanks for posting. I've always wanted to do a trip like this but didn't know if i could. This is inspiring

jam

Many years ago, yes. I'm glad you enjoyed the trip story!

It's true! Vancouver is a "small city" (~2.5m), but it's more than twice the size of the other large cities (Victoria 360k, Kelowna 180k). Everything else in the Province is relatively tiny and everything is very far apart! It explains why within the Province Vancouver has such a huge draw.

I thought of you and your trip when reading this graphic account: https://wapo.st/3T8D54I (gift link so it doesn't use up anyone's free WaPo views)

This is really cool, thank you! Yes, I think I resonate a lot with this idea of 'slow travel', but for me it's more like 'near travel.' I've been spending a lot more time within the Province these last few years. Whenever I feel ready for far-travel again I'll probably take this slower approach :)
