So one of the epiphanies I had on my break was that I wanted the characters I was creating for Good Bones to be much cuter. If you compare it to this earlier illustration you can see how she's changed, I made her a lot rounder. My main idea was "less deer-like, more jackalope-like." Overall I really like the change, it feels a lot more satisfying to draw. (I also changed her name to Marte)

I also narrowed in on the kind of overall aesthetic I want to try and capture, with muted pallets for the "main" character/world and iridescent/hypercolour for the outside. I've been mulling over this concept I've nicknamed millenial retro-futurism for lack of a better word that I haven't discovered yet. (Edit: Cyberpunk? Maybe the word I'm looking for is cyberpunk). Basically the idea is I want to draw the future the way we thought it would be in the 90s, with a lot of cables and grit and very analog-looking VR. Sort of like you would find in Serial Experiments Lain or Macross Plus and other series that were hugely formative for me.

Some secondary characters who won't get much screentime. As you can see the aesthetic even permeates the fashions hehe... I also want to emphasize how reliant this group is on technological interventions to survive (breathing supports and medications).

Luisa here I'm still not 100% happy with, but I think it's going in the right direction. (When we last met our heroes...) This next rev has a lot of details I like and it's a lot more practical while still maintaining the overall silhouette/flowyness. The colours are getting there. I want to push on this a bit more.

Making progress!
