Whoaaa remember this one? This is going way back, I've been doing these weird experiments in super slow motion with scraps of time that I have available ;)

After finishing the image, I did in fact run it through the vinyl cutter!

And that was pretty fun, so I decided to invest in some masking tape paper. You can buy this stuff in sheets for 3D printers. After cutting it out I pasted the positive one down on a piece of scrap cardstock. I put a watercolour wash over it and then lifted up the masking tape.

Overall... I was pretty pleased with this experiment! Weeding this design (pulling it up from the paper) is a pain in the ass, and the cardstock was NOT the right material (didn't show watercolour very well, and warped pretty badly)... also the watercolour I was using wasn't my fav... and the masking tape kinda ripped up the paper......... but it worked! The original concept I had of using the vinyl cutter to create a mask worked pretty well! I'm pretty impressed with how well the little leaves in the edges were reproduced. I call that a success :) I'm excited to daydream about what I could use this method for.

Next up... I'm going to use the leftover masking tape to try a silk screen :0

And rumour has it that our lab might be getting a laser cutter finally so that may lead to some fun ;)
