One of the things to remember about this show is that it portrayed a time period that was pretty ancient and was mythological. Virgin girls in this world were a symbol of purity, which was why they used them in certain rituals and even sacrificed them in the name of gods. I know it can seem problematic in modern times but it really has nothing to do with anything from any time period that anyone alive was around for, or was real for that matter.

The Mad Titan

As the show goes on to season 2 and then 3, and 4 and so on, it really does start to really speed up and get alot better. I guess the better they got the more funding they got, and things started to look better.
