People don't talk about this movie very much because you're right, it's not really Constantine. Matt Ryan played the character true to the comics. This movie was only Constantine in name. The reason they are planning a sequel I think is 2 fold. One is because it's Keanu Reeves and he has become a beloved actor and human being. The other is because they ended the run of the live action version on TV, so they feel like they can make another movie. Who knows, maybe they will learn from past mistakes and make him more magical, give him the trademark trenchcoat, etc. Here's hoping.

I don't think it has anything to do with the end of the show or arrowverse stuff either, there was talk all the way back in 2011 about possibly doing a sequel, then 2012 they planned on doing a Justice League Dark. But for sure It is most definitely about finding a new vehicle for Keanu.

I liked the series Constantine with Matt Ryan. His portrayal on Legends to me is just a spoof of Constantine. It makes taking his portrayal now as serious. I do of course like this movie portrayal. I'm not bothered by him being not being blonde but I do wish he had the signature overcoat. While Keanu does have a presence that tends to dominate the characters he plays I still feel it works here. I saw this when it came out so this was my first exposure to Constantine outside the comics. Who knows, if the 2nd Constantine movie does well it might trigger another series release with Matt Ryan.

I think part of the reason for a sequel is Keanu Reeves' interest in doing a sequel. I remember seeing on an interview on a late night show, around the time the latest Matrix movie was released, he was asked if there was a role he would like to go back to and he had said Constantine.

I think if he did at the time anyway people would compare him even more to Castiel since Supernatural was also out at the time

@Narutoanime16 Not really. Even though SPN premiered that same year, Cas didn't make his debut until season 4.
