Yang and Ruby are half sisters. Same father, Tai but different mothers. Yang’s Mom is Raven. The woman in Volume 2 who saved her. Raven and Qrow are siblings. Ruby’s mom is dead. Her name was Summer

Also when I first saw this show, I wasn’t super interested in the first two volumes but this is the volume that sold me on the show. The dark shift made a show that was just okay actually have stakes. Glad you only watched the intro once cuz it is full of spoilers. Even the lyrics to the song include spoilers like “There will be no hero in the end who will rise above… misery and pain for all When It (Beacon) Falls.” Few other small bits: 1. Yes, you are right. Nora is based on Thor. I think that is the first one you guessed. There are clues everywhere to the others. I’ll let you figure out the rest

This show broke some molds for me. I'm not one that typically gets into anime style shows and although this isn't true anime, it definitely is imfluenced by it. I kept hearing strong word of mouth about it and decided to give it a shot. Then I got hooked and I am (im)patiently waiting for vol 9 to start airing. Also, I dont really collect figurines and display them. I don't have any Pops. But while watching this show, I got myself a Weiss Schnee figure that sits on top of my bookshelf. Very cool that you got a Ruby Pop! The show definitely took a turn this season. Although I enjoyed the first 2 for the most part, this is when I really started getting into it. Not only is the animation vastly improved but there's more action and the storylines have matured. If anyone is wondering, we pulled a few peeps together again and plan to select vol 4 in Feb. Dont know when more will come after that though.

Someone has already pointed it out, but it's gonna bug me if I don't clarify things myself, lmao. So, Qrow is Yang's uncle by blood, he and Raven are twin siblings - Qrow and Ruby just seem to have a closer bond than he and Yang (or rather, his familial bond with Ruby is given a lot more focus) likely due to her practically idolising him. I'd imagine it does get a bit confusing when you take breaks between watching volumes because you can forget things, aha, but they're half-sisters, their dad is Tai Xiao Long, and they of course have different mums - Raven for Yang and Summer for Ruby. It gets a bit confusing especially as Yang refers to Summer as her mum too, (like how people call their step-parent's mum or dad sometimes) likely as they had a closer relationship than Raven and Yang.

My other comment was too long to think about editing it and making it longer, so I'm leaving this here: this volume is where the tone shifts completely. I remember watching it with my brother at the time it came out, and Penny's death wrecked me, and then Pyrrha... oh, I loved Pyrrha. Pyrrha's devastated me - and watching these reactions has been bittersweet as it's been a couple years now since I've actively sat down and rewatched the first three volumes, so getting to fall in love with Pyrrha again was a delight, until I remembered, well, you know. At this point, the stakes are raised. Oh, AND we're introduced to more lore (the RWBY lore goes deep, it's not any less confusing from here, aha) with Ruby's eyes - which were foreshadowed way back in episode 1 with Ozpin's comment. To add, personally, I consider Volumes 1 - 3 to be sort of a prologue to the main story, as they barely scratch the surface of the bigger picture in store. We get little hints and foreshadowing, particularly through the music, but otherwise, nothing much else up till this point in volume 3. This show is very near and dear to my heart and I'm very excited to watch the rest of your reactions to it because this is where everything kicks off. Hopefully, that's not super spoiler-y to say as you're at volume 6 currently, aha. (Oh, also to clarify something you were confused about in the moment, unsure if anyone has pointed this out to you yet, ajsjs - Torchwick got straight up eaten by that bird(?) grimm. It's very sudden so I can understand not picking up on it straight away. But yep.)
