Trust me, this series is not case of the week. It was purposely disguised as that. Once the main story starts n a few episodes, I believe you will find it thrilling.

the overarching plot takes a few episodes to get started but by roughly the halfway point of this season it will have built up a lot of momentum, don't worry.

These early episodes are all about universe building. If you can stick in there through them there are big rewards down the track. It starts out as a procedural but grows into something much more complex. You could think of the procedural episodes as the training wheels period until the story and audience were confident enough to leave them behind.

You need to get through season 1 to build a good understanding of The Machine and how John & Finch fit together. End of season 1, beginning of season 2 is when things start pulling together into a bigger storyline.
