I really want to slap Stefan for his selective memory about Damon never doing the right thing or the heroic thing... sure, Stefan, because it's not like Damon ever literally died and ended up spending several months in a prison world because he sacrificed himself to save Stefan's life (along with several others, but I doubt Damon would have done it to save them). And lets not forget that the entire reason things had gotten so bad for Damon that he chose to take the (we've frequently been told) incredibly painful option of desiccating is because Stefan's stubborn refusal to think and plan before acting got Damon trapped in the Phoenix Stone. Stefan really needs to come up with another way of dealing with his problems. Whenever anyone has done something to upset him, he's got a single solution to "fix it" that boils down to "I need to kill that guy." He's done that now with Klaus (unsuccessfully), Silas (successfully, but ultimately failed because it didn't help his PTSD in the slightest), Enzo (unsuccessfully, and nearly got Damon killed as a result), and Julian (ultimately succeeded, but only after his efforts got his mother killed and both Damon and himself trapped in the Phoenix Stone).
