Thank you! What a great episode! It's definitely one of the stronger episodes from season one on account of the actor who plays Gold, Rumplestiltskin, and the cowardly Rumplestiltskin before he was the Dark One... Phenomenal. No one else can play this character, or any version of him better. He's just fantastic. His dialogue in every scene he's in is truly phenomenal. And.. Rumplestiltskin most definitely plays all sides. :) As for his son's name... Rumple/Gold mostly refers to him as Bae as you noticed in this episode, but when the soldier in charge asks the boy for his name, he states his full name which is Baelfire. The names are definitely unique in order for them to fit not only more to the past time period which would fall somewhere within the early 1800s, as well as into the fairy tale world. And there is most definitely a reason for Rumplestiltskin's name, although this reason won't be revealed until much later on in the series. About the scene where Rumplestiltskin enters the castle to retrieve the dagger... it definitely feels strange and it didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. It's really one of the only scenes throughout this episode that I didn't care for, because while I like Rumple's overall plan to get inside the castle... I feel like scene was poorly executed and could have been done differently. First... it seemed strange that they didn't at the very least show soldiers and guards running from the castle's room where the dagger was hid upon it catching fire. However, for me it also felt strange to me that the lead soldier who is holding power over the Dark One would keep the dagger someplace where anyone could easily steal it during the chaos created by the fire, including the Dark One himself while in the disguise of the beggar, unless of course the soldier commanded the Dark One to never touch his dagger again, or something like that. But anyone else could have surely stolen it from within the castle I think. And I think that this soldier would have been smart enough to keep the dagger on him, or at least someplace more secure and secret so it wouldn't be found and stolen. Overall... I love both the past storyline and the present storyline in Storybrooke. Both are really well done. I loved not only Rumple, but of course Emma and Regina too. And Jared Gilmore's (Henry) acting is definitely improving, and it continues to do so throughout the series. I have always loved Henry since the Pilot, as he's an adorable kid. Most people are so quick to judge him though due to the actor's lack of experience in acting, as he is so young. It's unfair, because he does really well for such a young actor. I have a few favorite lines. I especially loved Gold telling Emma he knows how to recognize a desperate soul, just as the former Dark One told Rumple. And I love his lines with Regina when he talks about the fine points of a pen and of a contract. This line shows just how cunning and tricky Gold/Rumplestiltskin, or the Dark One can really be. Fabulous! Yes... any scene between Gold/Rumple and Regina/the Evil Queen are phenomenal. I love, love, love the moment between Emma and Mary Margaret at the election, as Emma shares with her her reasons for wanting to win the election... to show Henry that heroes can win by doing the right thing despite the villains' trickery. And because she fears that if she can't be a hero... the Savior, then what place does she have in his life. I love this moment for Emma's character. And then... I love the moment Rumple becomes the new Dark One. Very dark and creepy, and so amazing too. What a brilliant idea for the Dark One to be controlled by a magical dagger and for the power of the darkness to become transferred into whoever kills the Dark One with the dagger. As for Zoso... I really like the darkness and eerie feel for the previous Dark One, and how he managed to manipulate Rumplestiltskin into stealing the dagger, then to get him to use it to kill him in order to get Rumplestiltskin to take on what had become too much of a burden for him. The darkness and the power that comes with becoming the Dark One... the price, effects each Dark One differently and each person connects to it differently. As you have seen with Zoso and Rumplestiltskin. Thank you again! Overall, this was an excellent episode and I really enjoyed your reaction for it. Everyone's appearances throughout this episode were brilliant, especially the encounters between Emma and Gold, as well as between Gold and Regina, and Regina and Emma. And lastly... I absolutely love how Gold manipulated Emma and how he knew the outcome of the election, and knew that Emma would turn against him by outing him to the people so that she could become the new sheriff. Again... phenomenal. And Robert Carlyle in this end scene with Emma is incredible. Thank you so much! Like always, I can't wait for more!!! Until next time...
