Good Omens is based on my favorite book ever. A lot of this first episode is a parody of The Omen, where the Anti-Christ actually was sent home to be raised by an American diplomat, and Dog is a parody of the hellhound Damien had in that movie. I just love the whole thing about how it's name is supposed to give it its purpose, and apparently its purpose is to be a dog. LOL!

My favorite book too... and I thought this series crushed it (in a good way) for the most part. Though I have no idea how I'd feel about it if I hadn't read the book. The casting, regardless, is perfection.

I watched this when it dropped, been waiting a long time. I was intending to rewatch it - an ASR reaction vid beats a solo rewatch. Think I read the book in '94, my copy is signed by Neil Gaiman with a doodle and inscribed "Have a nice Armageddon" . So good. This mini-series nailed it - and now Neil is in pre-production on Sandman. OMG... I think the changes from the book help with the story flow for a 6 episode mini-series. The book spends a lot of time with Adam and his crew before he gets Dog. There's an elaborate Plan to get the nanny and gardener jobs. We didn't need to see those parts. They did keep the Queen music from the book - that's expensive.

Yes. "A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" was a book and a BBC TV series. It was a radio series first. And much later, a movie that missed the mark.

Ok, nice surprise! As a huge Terry Pratchett fan, I'm glad they made the book justice, and also glad you enjoyed it. Another show to follow on the ASR network! My catching up plans are definitely going south...

What's singular about this TV show is that the co author, Neil Gaiman, of the original source material ALSO wrote all the episodes, served as show runner and was a exec ... Which to my knowledge has never happened before (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong). It's this fact alone, as a fan of the book and of Neil's and Terry Prachett, that makes me excited to watch this. Oh, and that stuff about 42... That's Douglas Adams and Hitchhikers.

This is my first time watching this but I've been meaning to at some point regardless so you reacting to it is a very happy coincidence. Don't know much about it either, but David Tennant and Michael Sheen being weird and funny together was literally all I needed to hear to be in, haha. Also if you've never seen, read or listened to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, definitely worth it when you get the chance.

Those are all True Things. Showrunner didn't exist when Neil and Terry started thinking about adapting Good Omens. Sir Prachett died in 2015, Neil needed to create this tribute. Showrunner with a deep personal connection to the source material is important.
