One of my all time favourite shows, I'm old enough to have watched it when it first aired. :)

Chip

This was one of my favorite shows growing up.

FernWithy

They were all pregnant in that scene -- the 1950s were the apex of the baby boom! As to the freakout, the early supersonic tests were super dangerous. I imagine most of the wives were nervous.

Jarrod Wild

I remember watching the pilot movie when it premiered. I loved the show back then, but watching it again now I can't find it enjoyable.

OMG! I love this show! Can't wait to watch this rraction... But I have to wait till after work... YAY!

ThatGuy11200

I'm a little too young to have seen it when it was first on TV, but I used to watch repeats in the 90s. It's a really good series. The historical aspect is mostly just background stuff. I watched it when I was fairly young, and I'm British rather than American so it didn't mean much to me either, but that didn't affect my enjoyment of it. There are episodes where the history is important, like American racial segregation, but the series is mostly about the characters and their specific situations. So you don't need to know much about history to appreciate it. There are a lot of light moments as well, mostly centred around Al, but it doesn't shy away from the more serious topics.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG I had no idea you were going to do this! one of the best shows ever made

Lostmyshoe22

I did watch it when it first aired. It is one of my favorite shows. However, the series finale caused me psychological damage. I still have a moments every so often that pop up out of the blue where I’m like “what the hell!?!”

Daniel Deeks

More, More. There are a number of really good episodes once they got going. And thanks to the format you can jump into like a season 4 episode with no need to have watched the previous episodes (mostly).

Freddy Bowman

Absolutely top rate show. I hope you'll start reactions to this!

Tammy L. Faulkner

Makes since to someone who knows about Quantum Physics or is it Quantum Mechanics?😄clearly not me... But I still love this show.

Frederick

OMG that is one of my alltime favorite shows i loved that series.

Now I've seen the Quantum Leap pilot. There's still a handful of classic sci-fi TV series I haven't seen. Neat that this channel is giving me an education. The "Barry Allen" quip was spot on, ASR. The story was set in 1956. As we all know, Barry Allen kicked off the Silver Age (of superhero comics) with Showcase #4, cover dated Oct 1956 which probably went on sale in July. That sounds close for the time of the story, the first Barry Allen Flash comic would have be for sale in the same place you buy candy and soda. Flash caught on, Stan Lee & company tried to get in on that action, 50+ years later, superheroes are everywhere (and owned by Disney or AT&T).

Freddy Bowman

Actually, the "fastest man alive" appeared first in 1940. The original Flash was Jay Garrick during the Golden Age of DC comics. Barry was the second incarnation, so to speak, of the Flash. :)

One of my favorite shows! Watching now, I can see that it's a little slow in pacing compared to newer shows, but I still love it. Fun fact - the creator, writer, and producer of the show, Donald Bellisario, is Troian Bellisario's father. Troian, who played Spencer Hastings on Pretty Little Liars, was in an episode of Quantum Leap when she was really little (maybe 5 or 6?). There was also an episode of Quantum Leap titled "A portrait for Troian" - and the actress who played the character Troian in that episode is Deborah Pratt - Troian Bellisario's mother.

CaptainNice

Exactly. :) All of those pilots read Jay Garrick Flash stories as kids, and developed a craving for speed. That's partly why they do what they do. I doubt any of the pilots even new about Barry Allen. They would have quit reading comics when they discovered girls. Only a savvy commentator would have nailed it by noticing the subtle 1956 Golden Age/Silver Age distinction and mentioning the only Silver Age character that existed. Or it was just luck. ;b

CaptainNice

Its a painless way to learn some bits of US history. Seeing different sets and costumes each week is a bit interesting.

I am loving Al's "The FUTURE" outfits like that light up pin and the silver jacket. And that woman's blinky earrings... Guess I'm a raver at heart. It was definitely slower than modern shows, we are just so used to jump shots, and faster editing. I had a hard time focusing. Thanks, internet. I don't think I realized Bakula was quite fit! and not in a super jacked up totally waxed way. I liked him in that flight suit. OK I'll stop that now! This would be a bit difficult to reboot because there is a consent issue, for one thing. He was kissing that woman and she thought he was her husband and that's weird. And you brought up a good point about brain v body in the right-brain/ left brain thing. What is hard wired physically? Aren't our memories in our brains? Maybe that's too much to think about for a TV show. Maybe they get into it in later episodes! Anyway that was fun, thanks Jason!

Christine

LOL....I had (still have?) such a crush on Scott Bakula. Always thought he was so handsome 😍

raymond julien

Yes everyone was pregnant in the fifties (a natural response to the horrendous losses of ww2), thus creating the 'Baby boomer population bulge.

Melazond

I guess I had never thought about it before, kinda like when rewatching Buffy I was like Oh Shit Giles is hot!

Loves Bitca

On your right handed, left handed questioning. It wasn't spelled out on the show itself, but in background information, it was stated that Sam physically replaces the other person's body. There's just like an aura around him that looks like the other person. So it's not just his consciousness. His handedness, strength, etc would be Sam's and not the person he was replacing. This was one of my favorite can't miss shows, but yes it is rather dated on the production style at this time. There was talk several years back of not so much a remake, but a sequel series to the show, that would have been his daughter named Sammy Jo. The concept tied into some things that happened in the original series.

When are you going to continue the next episode. I loved the first reaction. Please continue watching.
