Ever since you said you would watch this i have been so excited. This may be my favorite show of all time. The first season it took some time to get going, they needed to establish the environment, but later seasons are just completely nuts. Great characters to get to know, and love. And officer Sun, may be the most sensual woman i have ever seen on TV, you might not think so now. the show aired for 4 seasons, but was cancelled for budget reasons, fans rioted ( i remember an emailcampaign to the Network boss ;) ) , and eventually we got a mini series to wrap things up. THe characters aren't really speaking English or Australian, it's just the translater microbes at work. The show was made in Australia, so you get australian actors, hence the accent. it's not really a show about space and such, more about the characters and their relationships. You may have heared Claudia Black before from Stargate, or she has voiced many videogame characters. She is known for putting on different accents flawlessly, She is Australian as well.

Farscape was filmed and produced in Australia and cast many roles with Australian actors. the show was produced in part by the Jim Henson Company (muppets), who also created the creatures/aliens. I loved this show so much ❤️ my dearly departed cat was named D'Argo, he was born the same year Farscape premiered. the actress who played Aeryn has voiced many, many characters in many, many video games, so you may know her voice. and the actor who played Crichton was one of the main gold aliens in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, James Gunn said he was so influenced by Farscape that he specifically asked Ben Browder to be in the movie.

Er that leaves me with...'Interstellar', means between stars.

Really love the theme tune to Farscape.

It gets really, really, really good as it goes on. I watched this when it aired on BBC2 when i was 15 and loved it so much.

Farscape is in my top 3 TV shows ever, with only Buffy and Angel ahead of it. It starts out a little slow, but by the end of the first season it kicks into high gear. One of the great things about it is the characters. Some may seem one-note at first, but they have some of the best character arcs I've seen in a TV series. I also love all the alien designs provided by the Jim Henson Company.

I always associate watching Farscape with eating my tea (dinner) whilst tuned in to BBC2.

Chris (darkwater)

This show is one of my all time favourites. <3 I hope you at some point come back around to watch the rest of it. Cause a lot of us will be here for it! :)

ASR: "I'm not a big fan of alien...type...space TV shows." At first glance that's exactly what Farscape appears to be. The pilot has to do the necessary work of introducing the characters and the universe, and giving you a sense of what it's all about. Like a lot of first episodes, though, it only gives you a very superficial idea of the butterfly that this particular caterpillar will become. Saying Farscape is just a space and aliens show is kind of like saying Buffy is merely an example of the schlocky, horror/fantasy genre. It misses just how ground-breaking, imaginative and influential it truly is. I wouldn't put Farscape in quite the same tier as Buffy, but at its heart it's about 3 dimensional characters whose future you become invested in. At times it's hilarious, at times heartbreaking. Sometimes it's bonkers and sometimes it misfires completely. For all its flaws, it's a series that is genuinely loved by a fanbase that has a lot of overlap with the Buffy and Angel one. I think a lot of us suggest pilots with one eye on the post Buffyverse landscape you'll get to at some point next year. Of course, just because we love a particular show doesn't mean it would be right for you. The advantages of persisting with Farscape are that it is of a similar vintage to Buffy, evokes the same nostalgia in the same sort of audience, and covers a similar light-comedy-to-dark-moral-dilemma type of range. The main drawback is that it takes a good 20 or so episodes to really get into its groove, which is a lot of time to devote to a show only to find out you don't really like or appreciate it. If you do decide to give it a go, then please don't be too scared. I know it's a disturbing thought to think of Australians escaping into space. Just try to remember it's only fiction. ASR: "Do I really sound like that?" Yes. Only more so. :P

Watching Farscape for me was like watching Buffy initially. I hated it. I couldn't get past the bad make-up, puppets, special effects. It seemed so campy and b-movieish with weird music. It wasn't until Buffy season 2 started that I "got" it, and Buffy became one of my all time favorite shows. Farscape was just...ugh. It was just muppets, fart jokes, toy robots, cool but weird music that didn't seem to fit, a generic bland lead that seemed like a jock pretending to be a scientist, and ideas and themes that seemed stolen from Star Wars, Star Trek, and Buck Rogers. My friend assured me it was great. I gave it a few episodes, and then it "clicked". Damn, it is a hidden gem. I LOVE Farscape. It, like Buffy, gets so good, even tho it starts off a little rocky and unusual. Even if you don't react, I hope you watch it. It is special with its' own identity. FYI, they all speak English because everyone at birth gets an implant in the brain to translate languages. SO everyone hears everyone else in their own native tongue. We are following John, so we hear it from his perspective in English. BTW, I hope you react to the pilot of The Expanse. It is just as good as Farscape, maybe better. It is easier to get into, and the pilot is awesome. It hits the ground running. My hidden shame is that I vividly remember seeing a promo for a S1 Buffy episode and thinking "They'll put any old shite on TV nowadays!". Some shows take time. I love both Farscape and The Expanse but they're hugely different in tone.

WB

The is a great series, but it takes a severla episodes to really get going.

Wateesh

On the whole naming characters thing you were talking about, I don't know if I could disagree with you more tbh. The name should not be special or unique without a reason to be that way. Nicknames notwithstanding (buffy for example).

I never did watch this show. Don't know why, but my interest is held back from looking into it.

Farscape is my favorite show after Buffy (even more than Angel); like Buffy, its beginning is kinda rocky. However, to be honest, I don't think you would enjoy it.

"Hello, ma dudes! Australian alien hieah!" This really wasn't my cup of tea. The puppets were cool and Claudia Black is sexy, but the dialogue was bizarre and everything was clunky.

I don't like alien space shows either, I don't like Star Trek, or Babylon, or Star Wars, but I do like Farscape :). It's from Buffy times, whereas with Star Trek I feel like it's way older, and Farscape's not like Star Trek, it centres more around main characters and their character development than those other "space, alien" shows, which are more like "heyy, look at all these many, different characters". Also they're not speaking English in Farscape, John's just hearing English, remember John couldn't understand them at first until he was injected with the liquid technology that automatically translates between languages, and Rigel said he'd no idea why John wasn't injected at birth, you must've just not taken that part in. I enjoyed your reaction Shan, and hopefully you decide to give it more of a chance in future after reading these comments. I watched it when it aired on TV when I was younger, AND after it no longer aired. Forgive its CGI :P

Also John is a really peculiar name on the other side of the universe ;)

Farscape may be the first show that I really binged, just shortly after it finished airing. That was back before binging was even a thing! :-) I really enjoyed it and had to wait with anticipation for the concluding miniseries to wrap up the loose ends left by the show's cancellation. One way that the show tried to carve out its own niche is by being more colorful, edgy and sexy than other shows out there. Glimmers of that can already be seen in the pilot. Shan, in case you are curious, there would be a few episodes that you will definitely enjoy, based on what I've seen from your other reactions. And, of course, if you get invested in the characters, the vast majority of the show will be quite engrossing.

I have to agree with Shan. Why do shows always use the same names all the time ( ie John, or Sam or Dean or Bobby or Jo). LOL

Tammy L. Faulkner

Well... I maybe wanna try it again at a later date, but not today... Watched more than half through and yawned from boredom.

I have watched this but only when I was a child, can't remember much about it.

Farscape is a show worth watching. It's fantastic writing, acting and incredibly imangiantive. I've never commented but very few reactors have stuck with this series and it has a payoff most shows don't get. I know your don't owe us anything but I would be very grateful if you stuck with this. It does get an ending and you do get closer at the end. FYI - Thanks for being you.

Oh my goodness! Another flashback moment for me. I came across this show years ago and found it pretty unique. Good, but weird. Or that should be weird, but good.

Mike Simonton

Hey is from Sydney. Didn't even think about that until you protested her accent.

Mike Simonton

also, this show was from the same time as SG-1.
