Just James. Patreon member. It was the devil Shan. This episode was nearly going to miss the transmission date, according to David Tennant on the commentary for The Impossible Planet, the episode was delivered on the Friday of the week airing Saturday causing reviewers not to get press copies of the episode who were eager to review it. Some came to ask if it was due to the content (as was done with preview copies of multiple episodes to prevent major twists being spoiled), but it was only due to the late post-production schedule that the episode was involved in. Coincidentally, this episode was shown in the week of 6/6/06. It followed a wave of Devil-related stories in the media, including the release of The Omen (horror movie about the devils son who was born on 6/6/06) The production crew only had about 15 minutes left to shoot the scene where the Doctor gives his big speech to the Devil in the pit done. David Tennant nailed it in one take because he’s fuggin awesome. All the scenes of bodies floating in space were filmed at Pinewood studios on their underwater stage. Two stars from me, I love demon stories and this has the devil, religion time space and an epic monologue. Toodle pip

At one point the budget wasn't able to cover a CGI Beast, one plan was for the entity to take the form of a young girl, inspired by one of the avatars of the Senior Partners in Angel. But they were able to shift things around in the budget and CGI availability was found. When the captain knocked out Rose he says "I already lost 2 crew members." But lets count them out. There were the 2 security guards that got killed by the dude with face markings as well as the girl that we saw later floating above the station in the first episode of this story arc. Then there was the guy in the tunnel, and finally the woman and the doctor in the pit. He needs to work on his counting. Good thing so many died, they only had two more seats empty on rocket at the end. How did all those people get there plus the Ood? Were they strapped in with cargo?

Fun fact: The actor voicing the Beast, Gabriel Woolf has also been in Classic Who voicing another ancient evil, the Egyptian god of chaos and violence Set in Tom Baker story Pyramids of Mars. Also funny you should mention Chuck and Rowena because I don't know if you know this, but I've just heard that Rob Benedict (Chuck) and Ruth Connell (Rowena) are engaged. I had no idea that they were together!

If you happened to enjoy the vibe of these two episodes, then - the "Event Horizon", the movie, would be the movie you'd truly enjoy watching. I was an "8 year old" when I watched that movie, and - it created "SOME INERASABLE MEMORTIUES", so - totally recommend, 10000 out of 10... :-) ...maybe... :-) ...very-very-definitely, maybe, indeed, with all of it .So, anyhow, was a good watch, enjoyed seeing your reaction to it .

I'm intrigued by the idea of this enormous and ancient beast, that existed "before this universe" and was such a threat that some equally ancient race(s) imprisoned it to protect the universe; yet still spread stories of this being to the point as to create a universal mythology, including the Devil on Earth. And all of that is so old even the Time Lords don't know about it.
